Position Summary

The Lodge Manager is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations, guest services, staffing, logistics, marketing, and long-term business planning for Shoal Lake Lodge. This combined leadership role ensures smooth hospitality operations during the season, while also driving year-round marketing, bookings, and strategic growth initiatives.

This position requires a highly organized, service-oriented professional with experience in tourism, hospitality, remote operations, or lodge/camp management. The Manager will serve as one of the main public representatives of Shoal Lake Lodge, fostering strong relationships with guests, partners, and industry networks.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operations Oversight

  • Oversee daily lodge operations including housekeeping, guest services, kitchen coordination, guiding support, and maintenance.
  • Manage check-ins, check-outs, special requests, guest issues, and service quality.
  • Develop and implement operational plans, budgets, and seasonal work plans that support high-quality hospitality service delivery in collaboration with the Executive Team.
  • Oversee logistics and supply chain planning (fuel, food, materials, equipment) to ensure uninterrupted guest services and hospitality operations.
  • Monitor transportation systems and mainland logistics for guests, guides, supplies and operations.
  • Ensure adherence to operational policies, regulatory standards, and tourism best practices alongside IIFN39 Holdings' corporate governance requirements.

2. Financial & Administrative Management

  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and monthly financial summaries.
  • Recommend major purchases and manage vendor and contractor relationships.
  • Support Finance in tracking of capital assets, depreciation schedules, and inventory systems.
  • Oversee procurement processes and ensure value-for-money purchasing.
  • Support grant writing, funding applications, and reporting (NOHFC, FedNor, REGI, etc.).

3. Infrastructure & Capital Projects

  • Oversee maintenance schedules and long-term infrastructure planning for cabins, boats, docks, utilities, and water/sewage systems.
  • Coordinate with contractors and engineers on capital improvement projects (e.g., new cabins, hydro tie-in, upgrades and renovations).
  • Ensure infrastructure supports tourism expectations while meeting environmental, health, and safety regulations.

4. Policy, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain operational policies, SOPs, and workplace safety systems specific to hospitality, tourism, outdoor adventure and guest services.
  • Support WSIB, OHS, and insurance compliance requirements.
  • Conduct audits of health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Provide oversight on emergency preparedness, guest safety protocols and risk management.

5. Team & Leadership Support

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise lodge staff (guides, cooks, cleaners, maintenance).
  • Ensure all staff adhere to policies, safety standards, and hospitality expectations.
  • Support cross-business collaboration within IIFN39 Holdings Inc.
  • Act as a liaison between the Executive Team and the Lodge staff.

6. Strategic Development & Marketing Support

  • Work closely with the Executive Team on business planning and strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to long-term business planning, tourism development and lodge expansion initiatives.
  • Support marketing strategy and brand development across tourism trade shows, outdoor recreation markets and digital platforms.
  • Provide data-driven insights on occupancy rates, guest retention, booking trends and other related performance metrics.
  • Support partnership development with tourism operators, agencies, and corporate groups.
  • Support community employment, training, and Anishinaabe cultural integration in lodge activities.

7. Marketing, Guest Experience & Business Development

  • Oversee year-round marketing and guest engagement strategy, including advertising, branding, and digital media presence.
  • Manage and respond to booking inquiries in the off-season, ensuring timely communication and high-quality guest relationship management.
  • Plan and represent Shoal Lake Lodge at tourism trade shows and marketing events across Canada and the U.S.
  • Coordinate promotional materials, digital content, and customer outreach campaigns.
  • Collaborate with designers, photographers, and media partners to enhance brand visibility.
  • Work closely with the On-Site Supervisor to ensure exceptional guest experiences from first contact through post-stay engagement and repeat bookings.
  • Act as one of the primary public representatives of Shoal Lake Lodge, embodying the lodge's professionalism, hospitality, and connection to Anishinaabe stewardship values.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in operations, business administration, or hospitality management.
  • Proven experience managing logistics, budgets, and multi-department operations.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with remote operations and northern infrastructure challenges.
  • Knowledge of financial systems, procurement, and grant reporting.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Strong understanding of guest experience management and service standards.
  • Understanding of Indigenous governance and community-owned business models preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and boating license (or willingness to obtain).
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it is a requirement.

Working Conditions

  • Mix of remote administrative work and on-site seasonal supervision at the lodge.
  • Occasional travel to the mainland and regional offices required.
  • Must be available during peak summer season for in-season work.

Compensation

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Travel expenses covered when on-site.
  • Opportunity for annual performance-based bonuses.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00-$79,000.00 per year
