Position Summary:

The incumbent will be responsible for producing tools, dies, and special guiding and holding devices that enable machines to manufacture a variety of products. Additionally, the incumbent will craft precision tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges and other measuring devices in addition to developing, designing, and producing new tools and dies and repairing worn or damaged tools, dies, gauges, jigs, and fixtures.

Responsibilities:

  • Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies. Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications.
  • Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled metal working machines.
  • Assemble, fit and adjust parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools. Conduct test runs to ensure that parts meet specifications.
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
  • Operate tool room equipment in a safe, effective manner at all times.
  • Service tools as required.
  • Updates and maintains engineering and tool room records, as required using appropriate software programs.
  • Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using appropriate equipment.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe materials to lay out machining, using appropriate instruments.
  • Develop and design new tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, etc., using computer-aided design software.
  • Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products.
  • Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, etc..
  • Maintain tool room tooling, equipment quality and efficiency, safety and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Operation of overhead cranes, lift truck and-or pump carts.

Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma
  • Red Seal NOC 72101 certification as a Tool and Die Maker
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing setting would be considered an asset
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and mathematical skills
  • Self-starter with ability to work and solve problems independently and in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail, high degree of patience and ability to concentrate
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Effective oral and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask/manage many projects in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Ability to work overtime and on a rotating shift basis
  • Reliability is a must

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: Up to $40.60 per hour
