RESEARCH ANALYST (12 MONTH TERM)

The AJC is currently seeking a Term Research Analyst who is interested in working in a dynamic, small team setting that promotes the value and worth of federal public service lawyers and seeks to improve their working conditions.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Advocacy & Bargaining, the Research Analyst conducts research and analysis related to key areas of focus for the AJC. These include, but are not limited to, LP-relevant compensation practices, job evaluation, conditions of employment, diversity, inclusion, equity, and other work-related issues affecting members.

The Analyst conducts analysis on key issues and prepares reports for review with designated stakeholders and provides advice within their area of expertise.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Acts as a resource person for collective agreements of other federal and provincial employees.

Supports collective bargaining through research, analysis, and data interpretation and reporting with various stakeholders.

Assists in the preparation of pay proposals and advises negotiators and the AJC Negotiations Committee on the impact.

Develops supportive research to substantiate Public Relations/Communications/ Government Relations programs.

Interacts with governmental and parliamentary bodies and parties as required.

Participates in as needed and represents the AJC in conferences/fora dealing with labour relations, compensation, and public policy as well as on inter-union, inter-organizational, and/or Parliamentary Committees.

Researches and prepares documentation on individual and collective rights and policy issues.

Tracks, researches, and analyzes policy developments, developments in stakeholder organizations relevant to the AJC.

Acts as a staff resource to certain AJC Committees.

Contributes to corporate knowledge and communications by preparing presentations and articles for publications in AJC's newsletters/communiqués and Website.

Participates in multi-disciplinary teams assigned to special projects.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Industrial Relations, Public Administration, Economics, or equivalent field from a recognized university.

Minimum 4 years' experience in research, compensation, diversity and inclusion, and labour relations issues.

Knowledge of the authorities governing labour relations and collective bargaining in the federal public service.

Knowledge of public affairs and policy development as it relates to the Government of Canada.

Ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret data, including compensation and benefits data.

Experience in conducting research projects, utilizing standard research methods, including survey design, statistical analysis, and literature review in the investigation of public sector labour relations and policy issues.

Ability to analyze and evaluate certain legislation, regulatory documents, and policy statements; and to research and develop supporting materials for AJC initiatives.

Experience in the area of diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace.

Ability to effectively communicate effectively with various stakeholders (written and verbal).

Knowledge and understanding of benefits, compensation practices, job evaluation systems, and their implementation in both private and public sectors.

Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.

Computer skills and qualitative analysis software such as NVivo or MAXQDA as well as statistical analysis software such as SPSS or SASS.

COMPENSATION AND OTHER BENEFITS

  1. COMPETITIVE SALARY COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE: $92,056.18 to $132, Union COPE Local 225)

  4. VACATION: 4 weeks/year and other paid leave

  5. JOB TERM: Full-time 12 Month Term (35 hours per week)
