  • Lead and champion a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with all safety standards, policies, procedures.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews, pre‑job/mid‑job/post‑job meetings, and ensure Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) are actively updated as work progresses.
  • Spend a minimum of 80% of time on the shop floor monitoring repair progress, ensuring adherence to scope, and resolving technical, tooling, and parts issues.
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership to technicians, including recruitment, orientation, coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and employee engagement support.
  • Ensure quality repair processes by reviewing inspection findings, warranty considerations, job scopes, and required customer communication milestones.
  • Oversee productivity by assigning and balancing workloads, monitoring technician progress, and adjusting manpower allocations as needed.
  • Support warranty and goodwill processes by evaluating failures, determining applicable warranty categories, and reviewing third‑party repair options when required.
  • Provide ongoing support during the customer quoting process to obtain an accurate depiction of service work provided.

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Perform shop‑floor oversight to monitor job progression, safety compliance, and repair quality.
  • Conduct pre‑job and mid‑job reviews, ensuring work is on track and scope changes are clearly communicated.
  • Assign technicians to jobs, manage manpower needs, and respond to emerging issues throughout the shift.
  • Resolve operational challenges related to tooling, parts delays, service information, and technical requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation through daily time reports, service reports, and warranty/warranty‑related findings.

Requirements:

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) certification required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with Caterpillar engines or related Power Systems equipment.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience with a strong desire to lead people.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand KPIs related to branch profitability.
  • Understanding of collective agreements, performance management, and principles of high‑performance leadership.
  • Effective communication, coaching, mentoring, and problem‑solving skills.

Important:

  • This position is based out of our Red Deer branch location.   
  • Permanent, full‑time role.
  • Monday – Friday, 5x2 schedule.
