Maintenance Service Worker 2 (MSW2) – Park Maintenance Worker 2:
$ $30.36 per hour
In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:
- 5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
- 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:
- $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
- $2.75 per hour for evenings

With upwards of five million annual visitors appreciating the beauty of Kananaskis Country, the trails and backcountry facilities require maintenance and construction staff to ensure Alberta Parks' visitors can discover or re-discover what makes these places special and learn to value and protect these spaces for current and future generations.
Working on our Trails and Backcountry Team, you will have the opportunity to conduct aerobically demanding work, travel significant distances in remote mountain environments on foot, off-highway vehicles and occasionally bicycles, learn trail maintenance and building techniques and potentially gather experience working in and around helicopters.
Primary duties are listed below. As a Trails Specialist you may also be performing some administrative and volunteer supervision duties.
- Conduct routine trail inspections and maintenance projects.
- Construction of trails and associated infrastructure such as bridges, walkways, retaining walls, staircases, handrails, culverts and other drainage devices.
- Routine inspections, cleaning and maintenance of backcountry campgrounds and facilities.
- Operate equipment such as loaders, excavators, skid-steers, etc.
- Operate chainsaws, brushsaws and other higher risk equipment.
- Assists with hazard tree management and invasive plant management programs.
- Install and maintain signage.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with water and wastewater system start-up/shut down and operation at backcountry patrol cabins.
- Assist with helicopter servicing of backcountry campgrounds and trail infrastructure.
- Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols as well as with the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols.
This position is a 40 hour weekly condensed work schedule with 9-hour workdays Monday to Friday with alternate Fridays as a rest day. There may be the requirement to work some weekends. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any weather conditions, rain or shine.

QualificationsEducation and Experience required:

- 3-year Driver's Abstract.
- Current Intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate.
Assets:
- Landscaping experience.
- Carpentry skills.
- Mobile equipment operation experience.
- Experience with chainsaws, brushsaws and other small power tools.
- Excellent work ethic, a team focus and commitment to safety.
- Understanding of recreational trails.
- Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints.

Maintenance Workers may encounter emotionally challenging situations, participate in conflict resolution, interact with irritated or difficult visitors or provide support during emergencies events or incidents.
