Information Job Title: Trails SpecialistJob Requisition ID: 78785Ministry: Forestry and ParksLocation: Kananaskis Region – Bow Valley, Peter Lougheed and Elbow/SheepHours of Work: Up to 40 hours per weekClassification: Maintenance Service Worker 2Salary: $24.80 - $30.36 per hourSeasonal Position Responsibilities Conduct routine trail inspections and maintenance projects. Construct trails and associated infrastructure such as bridges, walkways, retaining walls, staircases, handrails, culverts and other drainage devices. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on backcountry campgrounds and facilities. Operate equipment such as loaders, excavators, skid-steers, etc. Operate chainsaws, brush‑saws and other high‑risk equipment. Assist with hazard tree management and invasive plant management programs. Install and maintain signage. Assist with water and wastewater system start‑up, shut‑down and operation at backcountry patrol cabins. Assist with helicopter servicing of backcountry campgrounds and trail infrastructure. Apply all Occupational Health and Safety policies, procedures and protocols, including the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols. Qualifications Some high school education and 1 year of related experience. Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent. 3‑year Driver’s Abstract. Current Intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" / AED Certificate. Assets: Landscaping experience; Carpentry skills; Mobile equipment operation experience; Experience with chainsaws, brush‑saws and other small power tools; Excellent work ethic, team focus and commitment to safety; Understanding of recreational trails; Exceptional communication skills and comfort with difficult customer interactions or complaints. Terms of Employment Seasonal positions start dates vary with location/placement. Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work; staff housing may be available. Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided. Outdoor work in all varieties of weather conditions. Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (mid‑May to mid‑June).
