The Director, Public Safety Communications Centre (PSCC), leads the development, integration, and ongoing operation of a unified emergency communications centre responsible for 911 call answer, fire and police dispatch, and non-emergency services. Reporting to the Chief Public and Protective Services Officer, the Director provides strategic leadership to ensure seamless coordination across emergency service partners, strong operational performance, and high-quality service delivery.
This role oversees the design and evolution of the PSCC's integrated dispatch model, advancing modernization, technology optimization, and interoperability initiatives that enhance community safety and response effectiveness. The Director fosters a values-driven culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and psychological safety while ensuring compliance with all legislative, contractual, and operational requirements. This position plays a key role in positioning the PSCC as a provincial leader in collaborative public safety communications.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree with six (6) years of progressive senior management experience in an emergency communications, public safety, or related operational environment, preferably within a multi-agency or integrated dispatch setting (e.g., Fire/Police Communications Centre or Public Safety Answering Point).
- Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams, fostering accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence in a 24/7 environment.
- Extensive experience managing interagency relationships, including liaison with Police, Fire, EMS, IT, and corporate departments, as well as community and regional partners.
- Strong background in project management, including the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of complex operational or technology projects.
- Experience presenting to City Council, executive leadership, and external agencies, with a proven ability to communicate complex information clearly and persuasively.
- Demonstrated experience in collective agreement interpretation, contract negotiations, personnel management, and procurement processes within a public sector or emergency services context.
- Proven experience leading major integration or modernization initiatives, including technology upgrades, workflow redesign, or cross-departmental service alignment.
- A combination of education & experience may be considered.
Hours
The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.
Compensation
Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.
