The Grande Prairie Public School Division invites applications for a Director of Student Supports to join its System Leadership Team, commencing after January 2026. The Grande Prairie School Division employs approximately 1000 people and serves over 9000 students in 18 schools within the City of Grande Prairie.

Under the leadership of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, the Director, one of three (3), is expected to provide general system leadership and direct leadership and support to school administration teams as well as sharing in the responsibility of our continuous improvement as a school system.

This role works directly with and provides consultation to both Division and school-based personnel. The Director will be expected to model collaboration with others as they engage in their own professional learning throughout the year. They will also provide monthly support to school leadership teams for their professional learning, engaging in a collaborative inquiry-focused growth planning process.

Among other tasks that will be part of their role, the Director will also coordinate and support relationships between our schools and community partnership organizations.

Qualifications

• A graduate degree in Education is required. Preference may be given to those with a specialty in leadership or administration.
• Leadership Certification in the province of Alberta is required (or eligible to apply).
• Must possess a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (or be eligible to apply).

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Collaborative engagement and decision-making in their current role.
• Understanding the Division's theory of action for continued improvement and how the integration of annual personal, school, and system-level plans work together to provide students with optimal learning.

Major Roles and Areas of Focus

• Work directly with principals and vice principals to build programs and develop strategies to address issues in their schools.
• Provide leadership, support, and direction for school-based administrators,
• Co-support the professional learning of Learning Support Teachers (LSTs)
• Coordinate the development and where appropriate, the delivery of professional learning for professional staff with other departments.
• Coordinate and supervise Division Mental Health supports: Mental Health Capacity Building Team and Social workers.
• Provide leadership for staff and student wellness planning.
• Provide leadership and support partnerships with mental health agencies providing services in GPPSD (CASA, ISSP, Apple Schools).
• Coordinate and supervise Division Family Outreach team.
• Oversee the Division Nutrition Program and ensure equitable access to nutrition for learners requiring support in this area.
• Work with schools to support positive student attendance.
• Oversee Academy Programming for the Division.
• Support schools with Field Trip processes and procedures.

Carry out other additional duties and obligations as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent – Student Services or Superintendent of Schools.
