Position Summary:
The successful candidate will meet performance standards as outlined by the College of Nurses and by the Trillium Health Partners policies and procedures
Functions as a teacher, resource and change agent in disseminating information, interfacing with the multidisciplinary teams, staff and families to facilitate quality pain management
Assess personal knowledge and attitudes as they relate to pain management
Act as a role model for the teams by performing thorough pain assessments, documenting pain assessments, interventions and outcomes, communicating pain issues in report and rounds
Teach staff and patients and their families about pain management
Research and review pain management practices and documentation and recommend changes, improvements and best practices as required
Recommends and understands the overall fiscal impact of drug usage and order set changes to ensure quality and cost effectiveness
Responsible for disseminating information about pain management, including staff education
Responsible to facilitate risk management processes and pain quality assurance studies, data analysis and reports
Identify needs and assist in the development of pain management education materials and update procedures and protocols
Responsible for monitoring and addressing knowledge gaps/training issues in collaboration with the Managers, Anesthesia, and Multidiscipline Teams
Qualifications:
Current certification from the College of Nurses required, with a BSc Nursing strongly required, with a preferred master's level of Education
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a variety of pain management modalities in Acute Surgical Post-operative patients required
Strong and demonstrated leadership skills required
Research experience will be considered an asset
Ability to think critically and analyze effectively in order to prioritize needs in emergency situations
Demonstrates highly effective decision making, problem solving and organizational skills combined with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrates ability in teaching, coaching and role modeling, with knowledge of adult education principles and methodology
Current CPR Certification required
Positive attendance and work record essential
Demonstrates knowledge and experience in quality management activities
Demonstrates professional leadership and ability to be innovative and creative
