Richmond, British Columbia, Canada KAS Recruitment Full time

Job Description:

Estimator / Project Manager Mechanical Contracting

Job description

Are you a Project Manager or Estimator looking to advance your career with a highly innovative company experiencing rapid expansion? If so, this is an opportunity to bring your passion and energy to one of Vancouvers premier mechanical contractors.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Manager to join the Construction & Commercial Service team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands mechanical systems inside and out, and can move seamlessly between the office, field, and client meetings. The right candidate will balance technical estimating expertise with the leadership skills required to drive field productivity and the commercial acumen to help win work.

What Were Looking For
  • 5+ years of proven success in mechanical contracting (HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, or multi-trade).

  • Track record of driving field productivity and improving labour efficiency.

  • Ability to present to clients and support business development, not just back-office estimating.

  • Strong technical knowledge: blueprint reading, construction math, BC Building Codes.

  • Proficient with Procore and QuickBooks; familiarity with Microsoft Project, CAD, and estimating software.

  • Journeyperson trade background or engineering/CM degree an asset.

  • Confident communicator and negotiator with excellent interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Preconstruction (40-50%)

  • Prepare accurate material/labour take-offs, budgets, and proposals.

  • Lead pre-tender site walkthroughs and analyze drawings/specifications.

  • Coordinate tender process with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

  • Create persuasive proposal documents that help close business.

Project Management & Execution (30-40%)

  • Oversee procurement, scheduling, and subcontractor management.

  • Provide leadership to field teams, ensuring projects stay on schedule and labour productivity targets are met.

  • Conduct regular site visits, chair meetings, and resolve field issues proactively.

  • Maintain strong client, consultant, and supplier relationships.

Financial & Reporting (20%)

  • Monitor project costs and labour performance against budgets.

  • Manage progress draws, change orders, and receivables.

  • Report project status, risks, and financial health to senior leadership.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary: $100,000-$130,000 per year (commensurate with experience).

  • Extended health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance.

  • RRSP matching and incentive plan.

  • Paid vacation, flexible schedule, company events, and professional development support.

Requirements

  • Ability to reliably commute to Richmond, BC or plan to relocate before starting work.

  • Estimating experience: 5+ years (preferred).

  • Red Seal certification (preferred).
