POSITION DESCRIPTION
Asian Canadian Diversity and Diaspora:
Building National Capacity for Racial Equity & Inclusion
UBC's campuses are located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Syilx (Okanagan) Peoples and of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil Waututh) Nations.
UBC's Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice (GRSJ) and Equity & Inclusion Office (EIO) have partnered to develop and implement a two-year Canadian Race Relations Foundation project entitled Asian Canadian Diversity and Diaspora: Building National Capacity for Racial Equity & Inclusion. To advance this work, in collaboration with a larger UBC team of academics and practitioners, the GRSJ and EIO are now inviting applications for two 2-year Postdoctoral Research Fellows to support this project. The Fellows will be jointly supervised through the GRSJ and EIO.
Requirements for Applicants
Applicants must have a record of community-engaged research in the area of racial equity and inclusion, including work with and for Asian Canadians across the diversity of diasporic peoples. They must be able to demonstrate how their research seeks to address racism and advance racial equity, particularly as they relate to the lives of Asian Canadians. They must demonstrates ethical community-engaged research methodologies and collaborative approaches to working with a diversity of academic and non-academic partners across intersectional social positionalities (e.g., ability, age, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, and sexual orientation, for example).
The successful candidate for the position will have:
• A PhD completed within the last five years in a GRSJ related discipline, or interdisciplinary studies in humanities, social sciences (including education, politics, policy studies, sociology), or health;
• Evidence of independent scholarship that advances understanding of racism in its many forms (e.g., anti-Arab, anti-Asian, anti-Black, anti-Indigenous, anti-Jewish, anti-Muslim, for example);
• Evidence of knowledge translation and practice that seeks to advance racial equity and inclusion;
• Evidence of community-engaged and culturally-responsive academic and professional work;
• The ability to produce high-quality academic publications, professional reports, and policy briefs;
• The ability to respectfully communicate and engage with and across diverse racialized groups;
• The ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment;
• Strong project and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
