About SafelyYou

SafelyYou's passionate mission is to empower safer, more person-centered care across senior living through world-leading AI, industry-changing hardware, and remote expert clinicians, significantly improving outcomes for residents while increasing peace of mind for families and reducing costs for communities.

Originating in 2015 as the doctoral research of CEO George Netscher—and inspired by his own family's experience with Alzheimer's disease—SafelyYou was spun out of UC Berkeley's Artificial Intelligence Research Lab, one of the top five AI research groups in the world. And today, our company is solving critical challenges in senior living, from resident falls and ER visits to staffing concerns, length of stay, and NOI. All helping ensure that communities can focus on improved care for residents while still reaching their financial goals.

SafelyYou is one of five most innovative fall technologies referenced in the Senate Falls Report (2019), a winner of the McKnight's Tech Partner of the Year, and has been named to Fortune's Impact 20 list, which recognizes companies making people's lives better through innovation.

Your Role at SafelyYou

We're seeking a Lead Software Engineer (P5) to drive technical leadership on our Fleet Management team, which is responsible for the deployment, observability, and lifecycle of software across tens of thousands of edge devices. These devices are critical to SafelyYou's ability to detect falls and deliver meaningful insights to care staff.
You'll play a key role in ensuring safe and confident OTA (Over-The-Air) software updates, building scalable and reliable Go services, mentoring engineers (P1–P4), and acting as a pillar for quality and resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture and implementation of Go-based edge services used in real-time fall detection systems
  • Own our OTA pipeline: ensure safe, scalable, and observable deployment of software to over 60K devices
  • Drive improvements in observability, monitoring, alerting, and production readiness of the fleet
  • Guide and coach a team of engineers, reviewing designs and helping others grow through mentorship
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Hardware, AI, and Operations teams to deliver reliable end-to-end outcomes

Set the tone for high-impact engineering through design reviews, technical leadership, and reliability-focused thinking

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Deep professional experience with Go (Golang) in production systems
  • Experience with device orchestration, edge software, or large-scale system deployment
  • Comfort with Linux-based systems and strong debugging, profiling, and observability practices
  • Ability to own the full software lifecycle: from design to rollout to monitoring
  • Strong technical communicator and mentor — ready to guide P1–P4 engineers
  • You're driven by impact and safety, and care about doing things right
  • Prior experience in IoT, embedded, or hardware-software interfacin
  • Familiarity with OTA upgrade pipelines, rollback mechanisms, and CI/CD tooling for device fleets
  • Exposure to healthcare, compliance-sensitive, or mission-critical systems
  • Comfort with Terraform, Kubernetes, or other cloud-native tools
