Medical Office Assistant - General Surgeon Practice

The Medical Centre is a multi-specialty clinic providing a wide variety of health care to patients of the City of Peterborough and area. Our team of medical and surgical specialists, family physicians and interprofessional healthcare providers (IHP) are committed to providing quality patient care. We offer a variety of quality, on-site services to the community including X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, lab, hearing services and pharmacy services.

We are recruiting 2 Medical Office Assistants to work in a General Surgeon practice. This is an exciting opportunity to assist in a flourishing practice. If you are a self-starter, well organized and focused on providing a positive experience for patients, this is the job for you

The positions we are hiring for are as follows:

1x permanent full-time, Monday-Friday (37.5 hours/week) & 1x permanent part-time, per week), both responsible for performing a wide range of daily clerical and administrative tasks including but not limited to:

  • Answering telephone, receiving and registering patients
  • Photocopying, scanning, faxing
  • Booking and confirming patient appointments
  • Accurately entering patient data
  • Providing invoice and receipt for services not covered by OHIP
  • Liaising with practices, internal departments and external, healthcare services to book/cancel tests, as required

Qualifications

  • Graduate of recognized Medical Office Assistant program or relevant administrative health care is a plus
  • Medical terminology course or equivalent experience preferred
  • Previous experience in a health care environment involving patient interactions and working with interdisciplinary clinical teams
  • Preferred candidates may have 1-2 years of experience in a medical administrative role
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to changes in schedule when/if necessary
  • Strong EMR and computer skills- Accuro and EPIC experience is an asset
  • Customer service-oriented with a friendly and professional demeanor
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in data entry tasks
  • Ability to adapt and handle changing priorities in a dynamic work environment
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • COVID vaccinated
