SALARY: $ $24.00/Hr. depending on experience

The Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing food insecurity while supporting dignity, education, and community connection. In addition to food distribution, we deliver kitchen-based programming that builds life skills, food literacy, and self-sufficiency.

Job Purpose: The Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association is seeking a Kitchen Programs & Community Coordinator to support kitchen programming, community use of our kitchen space, and related operational needs, with the possibility of extension as organizational needs evolve. This role leads the delivery of our Basic Shelf and Financial Literacy program, coordinates community kitchen rentals, and assists with expanding kitchen usage and programming.

Approximately 65% of the role focuses on kitchen programs and coordination, with 35% supporting client intake and warehouse operations as needed through cross-training.

This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Kitchen Programs & Coordination (Approx. 65%)

  • Coordinate kitchen bookings for external groups, including scheduling, communication, and on-site support.
  • Lead and facilitate internal kitchen-based programs, including the Basic Shelf and Financial Literacy workshops.
  • Plan, develop, and enhance community kitchen programming in alignment with organizational goals and community needs.
  • Ensure full compliance with Alberta Health Services (AHS) food safety standards and best practices.
  • Manage kitchen operations, including inventory management, program-related grocery shopping, bulk ordering, restocking, and overall cleanliness.
  • Monitor kitchen program budgets, track expenses, and assist with funding proposals and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential program and participant records.
  • Support and coordinate volunteers involved in kitchen programs and activities.
  • Promote a welcoming, respectful, and safe kitchen environment for participants, volunteers, and community partners.

Client Intake & Warehouse Support (Approx. 35%)

  • Crosstrain and assist with client intake, hamper distribution, and client-facing services when required.
  • Provide respectful, trauma-informed support to clients and assist with referrals.
  • Support warehouse operations, including organization, stocking, and occasional lifting.
  • Assist with Mobile Pantry or emergency response activities as needed.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in food drives, fundraising events, and community outreach.
  • Attend off-site events or workshops related to kitchen programming.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Working Conditions

  • On-site role, primarily based in the kitchen.
  • Requires standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional evenings or weekends may be required.
  • Regular interaction with clients, volunteers, and the public.
  • Fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education in culinary arts, nutrition, or human services is an asset.
  • Valid Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience delivering kitchen, life skills, or community-based programs preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
  • Comfortable using email, calendars, and basic computer programs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience working with diverse populations is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license is an asset.
