About the Program
Council for the Advancement of African Canadians in Alberta operating as Africa Centre is committed to supporting seniors of African descent, particularly those with language barriers, by building their digital literacy skills. Our programs help seniors stay connected, access resources, and improve their quality of life in a supportive and culturally inclusive environment.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Digital Skills Instructor to teach seniors with limited English proficiency. The instructor will provide hands-on training in basic technology, adapting lessons to meet diverse learning needs while creating an inclusive and encouraging classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver lessons on essential digital skills, including:
- Computer basics
- Internet browsing and online safety
- Email and communication tools
- Mobile device usage - Adapt instruction to meet the needs of seniors with language barriers by using simple language, visuals, and translation tools.
- Provide one-on-one support and guidance to learners.
- Create user-friendly teaching materials, visual aids, and bilingual resources.
- Collaborate with community partners to promote program accessibility.
- Track learner progress and provide feedback to support growth and confidence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent experience (retired teachers encouraged to apply).
- Experience teaching seniors or working in community-based learning environments.
- Ability to explain technology in simple, practical ways.
- Familiarity with translation tools and multilingual instruction.
- Strong cultural sensitivity, patience, and adaptability.
Schedule & Hours
- Wednesdays and Thursdays
- 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- 4 teaching hours/week + 1 hour preparation
