Role of Delivery Assistant/Swamper

You'll be working alongside a driver and another assistant every day. You and your fellow swamper will work in tandem with a forklift to load the truck according to the driver's efficient loading plan. You'll carefully follow the plan because your pay will be based partly on how much you can deliver; a heavier truck means a heavier paycheque. Punctuality is very important to start your day.

Tasks and results for this position include:

Key Tasks

  • Assist with loading and unloading building materials from trucks, ensuring safe handling and accurate delivery.
  • Verify delivery contents against shipping documents and report discrepancies or damages promptly.
  • Follow delivery schedules and assist drivers in navigating to job sites efficiently.
  • Communicate with site supervisors or customers to confirm drop-off locations and special handling instructions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of delivery vehicles and material storage areas.
  • Support warehouse staff with inventory tasks and general upkeep when not on delivery routes.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must understand and comply with required health and safety regulations
  • Able to assess a situation and recognize potential hazards
  • Must have strong reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Be comfortable working at heights
  • Able to lift of up to 36kg (80lbs.)
  • Able to work outside in various weather conditions
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Past experience in building products and/or working at heights are definite assets
