Clinical Nurse Manager – Surgery
Kensington Health is seeking an accomplished Clinical Nurse Manager – Surgery to provide strategic and operational leadership to our surgical department at the Kensington Eye Institute, a program of Kensington Health Centre.
The Surgical Department at the Eye Institute at Kensington Health, is one of the largest independent (ICHSC) facilities that performs over 18,000 eye surgeries a year.
In this pivotal role, you will lead the department through clinical operations, human resources, and financial management, and develop both short- and long-term goals to align with our organizational strategy. You will oversee patient care, staff practice and education, manage inventory, and ensure compliance with accreditation standards, professional governing bodies, and policies. Your leadership will extend to workforce management, including hiring, onboarding, staff development, performance evaluations, and fostering a positive team culture within the operative area, procedural department, and MDRD.
As part of the leadership team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of care and patient experience. You will guide departmental policies, lead safety and infection control initiatives, serve on several committees, and provide ongoing performance improvement and budget oversight.
Salary range:
$95,000 - $114,000
Responsibilities:
As a central member of the leadership team, you will provide leadership and direction to staff, ensuring high standards of clinical care and patient safety through:
- Fiscal & Operational Oversight:
Prepare and monitor budgets, contribute to forecasting and planning, and ensure departmental alignment with fiscal and Ministry of Health commitments. - Manage Resources & Inventory:
Ensure optimal staffing, oversee processes, and coordinate cost-effective resource allocation - Lead Quality & Patient Care:
Establish and update care protocols, collaborate with medical and clinical staff, support accreditation, mentor teams, and continuously enhance patient experience. - Oversee Human Resources:
Lead hiring, onboarding, orientation, staff development, performance management, and promote a diverse, supportive, and collaborative team culture. - Professional Development & Community Engagement:
Foster staff professional growth, maintain organizational relationships, represent Kensington Health in the community, and address client concerns effectively.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership, flexibility, and organizational skills under fast-paced and high-pressure conditions.
- Ability to anticipate clinical and staff needs, manage multiple tasks, and implement effective practices.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach teams while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- 5+ years of supervisory/management experience.
- Client-focused with demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities
- 2 – 3+ years of experience in Ophthalmology (asset).
- Experience in outpatient settings and budget management (asset).
Required Professional Designation/Certificate:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (required).
- Current Registered Nurse certification from the College of Nurses of Ontario (mandatory).
- Master's degree in health studies, Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Membership in professional associations (RNAO, ORNGT) is an asset.
