Description:

Course description: Overview of planetary astrophysics at a level appropriate for science students. Planets as a by-product of star formation: theory and observations. Protostellar/protoplanetary disks. Planetesimal and planet formation. Solar system versus extrasolar planetary systems. Giant planets, terrestrial planets, dwarf planets and minor bodies in the Solar System: interiors and environments.

Estimated course enrolment: 40

Number of Hours: 0.5 FCE

Sessional dates of appointment: Specific duties will occur between January 1, 2026 and April 30, 2026. All duties will be conducted in-person.

Salary Salary: Starting September 1, 2025 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9,820.70 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $10,510.04 for a Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term; $10,510.4 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,760.23 for an Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term; $10,760.23 Sessional Lecturer III; and $11,030.34 for a Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term.

Minimum qualifications:

Ph.D. in Physics or a related branch of Physical Science.

Description of duties:

Preparation of lectures, lecturing, creation of exams, weekly practicals, term tests and assignments, provision of assignment, test and exam solutions, exam marking, marks management, availability at a regularly scheduled weekly office-hours and meeting and coordination with TA(s).
