Course Code and Title: PSL374H1S – Advanced Physiology Laboratory

Course Description: This is an advanced laboratory course in physiology focused on the integration of organ systems to understand control mechanisms of body function. This course is designed to teach laboratory techniques, data analysis and problem-solving skills. Labs will include a variety of topics which build on the experience of PSL372H course, which is a prerequisite for PSL374H.

Estimated TA Support: 1 TA per module

Sessional Dates of Appointment: January to April 2026

Salary: In accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the rate of pay for teaching in this course will be $ prorated at 30%), inclusive of vacation pay.

Qualifications: A PhD in physiology or a related field with experience as a Teaching Assistant/Instructor in an undergraduate course. Knowledge of R and bioinformatics is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience teaching in a physiology laboratory course, with evidence of teaching/supervising graduate students.

Class schedule: During the scheduled Arts and Science winter term, with lectures on Tuesdays 1-3 p.m. and laboratories on Wednesdays 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Description of Duties: All normal duties related to the teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content and laboratory practicums, under the supervision of the undergraduate coordinator and faculty module leads; development and administration of tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TA's assigned to the course, including TA training and TA marking of course assignments, tests and exams; preparing all necessary orders for Division of Teaching Laboratories; and other duties as required. Includes delivery of 4 lectures and facilitation of 4 four-hour lab modules. This represents about 30% of the workload for this course.
