Job Overview

Thunder Bay International Airports Authority is seeking a skilled Airport Mechanic to join our team. This role involves full-cycle maintenance and repair of standard and specialized equipment in line with various regulatory operational standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working with a variety of large equipment and bring an eagerness to learn and specialize in an airport environment. Training opportunities will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul and maintain specific Airport Equipment including emission control systems, gas & diesel engine repairs, service attachments & working tools, electrical & electronic systems, hydraulic systems and drive train components
  • Adjust equipment and repair/replace defective parts, components or systems
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools safe & effectively to complete repairs and maintenance tasks
  • Conduct inspections to identify issues or malfunctions in equipment
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot problems and implement solutions
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols and performing all duties in accordance with company health and safety regulations
  • Assist with heavy lifting and moving of equipment as necessary
  • Other related duties as required

Required Knowledge/Experience

  • 5+ years of experience working in heavy equipment repair and strong mechanical aptitude (required)
  • 310T or 421A Certification (required)
  • Valid DZ License (required)
  • Experience in 12V/24V- CanBus, electrical and hydraulic systems (required)
  • Experience working with Airport Equipment is considered an asset
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with HVAC systems is beneficial
  • Holding an active ticket or certification in Welding is preferable, welding systems experience required
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in light to heavy equipment diesel repair
  • Proficiency in using power tools and hand tools for assembly and repairs
  • Technical computer skills to run equipment diagnostics
  • Physically fit to twist, bend, or stand for extended periods of time, capable to lift 40lbs comfortably
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identification Card, Criminal Records Check & Clean Driver's Abstract
  • Hours of work: Monday-Friday, some On-Call evenings and weekends especially during winter months.
