Nutrition & Food Service for Early Childhood Education Centre

Nanabijou Childcare is seeking a passionate and skilled individual to join us to provide nutrition and food service to children under 4 years old. At Nanabijou Childcare, we believe that food is not just nourishment - it's a foundation for building strong, meaningful connections, skills, and memories. Our innovative approach integrates nutrition into the classroom, fostering learning through food while preparing three meals daily for over 100 children.
The ideal candidates will view this role as an opportunity to nurture young children's growth and well-being through food. This is not just about cooking - it's about helping children develop life-long positive relationships with food and each other, creating a sense of community and fostering life skills through shared meals and food experiences.
Qualifications:
- A genuine passion for supporting the health, development, and well-being of young children.
- Knowledge of healthy, balanced eating and Canada's Food Guide.
- Current Safe Food Handling Certificate.
- Valid First Aid/CPR or BLS certificate.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Experience and/or education in cooking.
Additional Assets:
- Experience working with young children, particularly in an Early Childhood Education setting.
- Knowledge and appreciation for the Reggio Emilia Approach to learning.
- Ability to engage families and foster connections through food-related activities and education.
- Experience with sustainable food practices, such as growing, composting, and sourcing local ingredients
Responsibilities:
- Child-Centered Menu Planning: Develop seasonal menus that prioritize children's health, diverse cultural practices, and Canada's Food Guide recommendations.
- Meal Preparation with Purpose: Prepare meals that go beyond nutrition to support children's development, social skills, and enjoyment of food.
- Collaborative Engagement: Work alongside Early Childhood Educators to incorporate food and nutrition into daily learning and play.
- Sustainability Practices: Promote eco-friendly food practices, including composting and sourcing local ingredients when possible.
- Health & Safety Leadership: Maintain the highest health and safety standards in food preparation and service.
- Time and Budget Management: Oversee weekly supply planning, budgeting, and inventory rotation to ensure efficiency.
- Teamwork and Independence: Work both independently and as part of a dynamic, child-focused team.
