Role
Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer and Assistant Deputy Minister of the Cybersecurity Division, the Executive Director of Cybersecurity Services provides strategic leadership for the Government of Alberta's (GoA) cybersecurity programs. This role oversees the delivery of comprehensive cybersecurity and cyber threat risk management initiatives, ensuring the protection of Albertans' data. Working in support of Technology and Innovation, the Executive Director collaborates with Ministries to ensure all digital services meet stringent security and privacy requirements. The program encompasses all aspects of digital security for GoA systems, including policy development, compliance monitoring and reporting, risk and vulnerability management, exposure management, application security, digital service monitoring, and incident response and recovery. The Executive Director delivers shared solutions to address security threats across Ministries and influences decisions that shape security policies and controls for the GoA.
This role also shapes a government-wide Cybersecurity Strategy, aligning risk management, security architecture, processes, awareness, and governance with IT and business objectives. The position has significant autonomy to recommend legislation, policy, and strategic directions. Decisions made affect which projects are developed and implemented, as well as IT guidance across the GoA through risk-based recommendations to senior officials.
The Executive Director will be responsible for making decisions regarding security policies, directives, controls, and standards that have a government-wide impact, influencing how all Ministries design, implement, and manage their digital services. These decisions set the foundation for consistent security practices, ensure compliance with legislative and privacy requirements, and mitigate risks across diverse systems and platforms. By establishing clear and enforceable standards, this role safeguards sensitive information, strengthens resilience against cyber threats, and promotes a unified approach to cybersecurity across the Government of Alberta.
