Executive Director

Job Purpose: The Executive Director of OSP is responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and will ensure OSP fulfills its mission through effective program delivery, financial management, and stakeholder engagement. They will serve as the primary liaison between the board, staff, funders, and community partners, ensuring the sustainability and impact of OSP.

Corporate Profile: On Site Placement Services Association (OSP) is a registered charitable organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Since 1981, we have been providing employment services in the Edmonton region. OSP has gained community recognition for excellence in providing comprehensive training, assessment, coaching and other employment services to clients facing barriers in the Edmonton region.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Governance & Strategic Leadership

● Collaborate with the Board of Directors to shape and implement the organization's vision and strategic goals.

● Ensure the organization meets all legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.

● Keep the board informed with clear, timely updates on financial health, operations, and program impact.

● Uphold and implement board policies to ensure strong organizational oversight.

● Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of OSP's activities

● Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board

Operational planning and management

● Oversee the daily operations, ensuring efficiency and alignment with strategic priorities.

● Develop and implement policies that support smooth, consistent operations.

● Monitor organizational performance and make data-informed decisions for continuous improvement.

● Ensure OSP has the right systems, tools, and processes in place to maximize impact.

● Foster a culture of adaptability and innovation to meet evolving community needs.

Program planning and management

● Guide the development and execution of programs that are meaningful, effective, and mission-driven

● Regularly evaluate program outcomes and adjust strategies based on data and feedback.

● Build strong partnerships to enhance program reach and effectiveness.

● Ensure programs meet funder expectations, best practices, and community needs.

● Stay informed about trends and emerging opportunities to strengthen program delivery.

● Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects

Financial Stewardship & Sustainability

● Develop and manage the organization's budget, ensuring responsible financial planning.

● Oversee financial reporting, audits, and compliance with funding requirements.

● Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor engagement, and strategic partnerships.

● Diversify revenue streams to support long-term sustainability.

● Monitor financial performance and adjust strategies as needed to maintain stability and growth.

● Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on OSP's revenues and expenditure

People and Culture Leadership

● Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery

● Oversee the development and implementation of appropriate human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions, onboarding, growth, and performance management for all staff

● Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations

● Recruit, interview and select staff who have the right technical and personal abilities to help further OSP's mission

Mission-Driven Leadership

● Champion the organization's vision, values, and impact in everything you do.

● Foster a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.

● Ensure equity, diversity, inclusion, and access are embedded across all aspects of the organization.

● Lead with transparency, integrity, and accountability to build trust internally and externally.

● Inspire and empower the team, board, and community to work together toward OSP's vision.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

● Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of OSP's work and to identify changes in the community served by the organization

● Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with clients, community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve OSP's goals

Risk Management & Organizational Resilience

● Identify and mitigate risks to ensure OSP's stability and sustainability and implement measures to control risks.

● Ensure compliance with contracts, funding agreements, and regulatory requirements.

● Maintain up-to-date policies and procedures to protect the organization and its stakeholders.

● Develop and oversee crisis management and contingency plans.

● Ensure appropriate insurance coverage and risk mitigation strategies are in place.

● Ensure that the Board and staff understand the terms, conditions and limitations of the insurance coverage

Qualifications

● A post-secondary degree in a relevant field (e.g., non-profit management, business administration, social sciences) or equivalent.

● Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and support a diverse team.

● Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, including public speaking and stakeholder engagement.

● Proven financial acumen, including budgeting, fundraising, and financial oversight.

● Deep understanding of governance, policy development, and non-profit sector best practices.

Experience

● Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within a non-profit, social enterprise, or mission-driven organization.

● Experience managing programs, operations, and teams in a fast-paced, community-focused environment.

● Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and building partnerships with funders and stakeholders.

● Hands-on experience working with a Board of Directors and supporting governance functions.

● A track record of driving organizational growth, innovation, and measurable impact.

Working Conditions

● OSP strives to provide a flexible work environment that values work/life balance; there will be some expectation to work evenings, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing the organization at public events.

Compensation:

● This is a full time, permanent position offering a comprehensive vacation, professional development, and benefits package.

● $85,000-$110,000 depending on skills and experience.
