The Ministry of Energy and Mines is seeking a dynamic individual to lead our Resident Geologist Program in Thunder Bay.

As a Regional Manager, you will oversee teams of geoscientists delivering expert advisory services and geoscience information to the public and mineral industry, helping to drive sustainable mineral exploration and development across Northern Ontario.

If you share this ambition, you'll find a workplace that reflects the diversity of the people we serve and empowers you to lead with confidence.

  • Purpose that drives you: Lead work that matters. Your leadership will shape policies, programs, and services that improve lives across the province—every day.
  • A culture that supports you: Thrive in a flexible, inclusive, and respectful workplace that values your well-being and empowers you to bring your whole self to work.
  • A career that grows with you: Explore leadership opportunities across ministries and sectors. With access to mentorship, learning, and mobility, your career can evolve here.

About the job

We hold our leaders to high standards because we believe in their potential to drive meaningful change. In the Ontario Public Service, leadership means showing up with authenticity, acting with integrity, and having the courage to do what's right—even when it's hard.

As a leader, you'll be expected to create a team culture that encourages innovation, supports collaboration, and champions inclusion. You'll help build a diverse, anti-racist, and accessible workplace where everyone feels safe, respected, and able to thrive.

Leadership is about impact—and in these roles, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful one. You will:

  • Oversee the administration and delivery of the Resident Geologist Program, including geological data management, mineral deposit evaluation, and exploration activity monitoring.
  • Direct the operations of district and regional offices and core libraries; review geoscience project proposals; prepare mineral resource assessments, annual reports, and exploration recommendations; and contribute geoscience input to land-use planning.
  • Deliver geoscience information and advisory support to municipal governments, mineral industry stakeholders, and Indigenous communities.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Indigenous communities, councils, groups, and organizations.
  • Manage and provide strategic direction to geographically dispersed staff, including oversight of human resource matters.
  • Offer input and recommendations on legislation, regulations, policies, and initiatives that impact geoscience policy and the mineral industry.

Meet Your New Team

The Resident Geologist Program is delivered through eight regional offices across Ontario and plays a key role in promoting mineral exploration, providing public access to geoscience data, monitoring sector activity, supporting land-use planning, engaging Indigenous communities, and delivering public education to advance Ontario's minerals sector.
