Position Summary:

The HVAC Testing and Balancing (TAB) Apprentice assists certified TAB technicians in measuring, adjusting, and documenting air and hydronic system performance to ensure HVAC systems operate according to design specifications. This entry-level position provides hands-on training and experience in the testing, adjusting, and balancing trade, preparing the apprentice for advancement to a certified technician role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist TAB technicians in performing airflow and water flow measurements on HVAC systems.
  • Help set up and operate testing instruments such as manometers, flow hoods, anemometers, and pressure gauges.
  • Record test data accurately and assist in preparing field reports and documentation.
  • Support the adjustment of dampers, valves, and controls to achieve system balance.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Learn and apply HVAC fundamentals, system components, and design drawings.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, technicians, and customers on job progress and findings.
  • Participate in on-the-job and self-led individual studying (materials provided) to gain knowledge of TAB procedures and industry standards. (AABC)

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical school background preferred but not an asset).
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical drawings, or building systems is not required but an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work safely on construction sites and in commercial buildings.
  • Good math and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders or in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various environmental conditions.

Career Path:

This position offers a pathway to becoming a Certified TAB Technician, with opportunities for industry-recognized certifications and advancement within the HVAC field.

Benefits do not begin until end of 6 month probationary period.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship

Pay: $18.00-$43.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
