Rivers Electric (Taber) Co. Ltd. is a long-established electrical contracting company based out of Taber, AB. We are seeking a Controller / Senior Accounting & Office Manager to take ownership of our accounting systems and office operations to ensure our administrative and accounting functions run accurately and efficiently.

This role has evolved beyond traditional bookkeeping and now includes broader oversight of accounting systems and office operations. It combines senior-level responsibility with hands-on involvement in day-to-day accounting and administrative work and will suit someone who is comfortable balancing big-picture review with close attention to detail, and who is looking for a fulfilling long-term career.

Role Overview

This position oversees the accounting and administrative side of the business and provides leadership and direction to the office team. The successful candidate will be accountable for the accuracy and consistency of accounting and administrative processes, while also remaining involved in key bookkeeping and trade-specific administrative tasks. This role requires a high degree of personal integrity and alignment with our company's core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight and hands-on involvement in day-to-day accounting, including:
  • Payroll and related HR administration
  • Accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Job costing, invoicing, and data review
  • GST and other tax filings
  • Bank deposits and bank/account reconciliations
  • Review, verification, and quality control of work completed by accounting and data-entry staff
  • Ongoing improvement of accounting and administrative systems, processes, and controls
  • ERP and accounting software management and upkeep
  • Financial and operational reporting to support management decisions
  • Year-end account preparation and coordination with external accountants
  • Benefit plan administration
  • Apprenticeship administration and trade-specific reporting
  • Acting as a senior internal resource for accounting, administrative, and process-related questions

Qualifications & Attributes:

· Strong bookkeeping and accounting background (designation not required)

· Comfortable balancing oversight responsibilities with hands-on work

· Solid understanding of how a trades-based, owner-operated business operates

· Experience reviewing, correcting, and improving others' work

· Exceptionally detail-oriented with a strong sense of accountability

· High level of integrity, discretion, and trustworthiness

· Organized, dependable, and professional in both conduct and communication

· Able to work independently while also leading and supporting a team

· Clear, practical communication style
