We are currently looking for a Quality Technician to join our busy and growing manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will be engaged in elevating the department and company to the next level. The incumbent will be forward looking and thrive in a culture of continuous improvement.

General Accountability:

Reporting directly to the Quality Control Supervisor, the Quality Technician will perform inspection and testing duties to ensure that shipped products fulfill all customer specifications and Romet product quality requirements, as well as to ensure that first off, in-process, and last off product meets all company product specifications and quality requirements. Will also support and cross train with other team members.

Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Perform quality control for both shopfloor (e.g. W.I.P. , Finished Goods) and external raw material
  • This position will be responsible for new project FAI, regular raw material incoming inspection, assembly in process and proving room quality.
  • Audit and monitor quality requirements in accordance with the company quality assurance policies and company specifications
  • Perform incoming inspections for external materials (e.g. machining, mechanical, casting / extrusion, electronics, and plastics) as per Romet quality plan requirement with reference to product specification (i.e. verification of supplier test data AWS, Certificates of Conformance, and serial # traceability for each lot, etc.)
  • Raise Supplier Quality Concern Notification (i.e. SQCN) on the defective external materials and follow up SQCN timely closure to work closely with supplier quality and technical buyer team
  • Perform first article, in-process, and the final inspections to support the product qualification process including supplier quality audits and fundamental CMM program training when necessary (i.e. electronics and/or plastics commodity external source new project, etc.)
  • Conduct components and product first-off, in process and last-off inspection as per QMS protocol requirement and document the inspection data into the database in a timely manner (i.e. conformal coating thickness, masking protection area, soldering quality as per IPC standard, various sensors; function test, harness continuity test, Lid function test, Module DTS test, AdEM, BL, etc.)
  • Assist Quality Supervisor to clean up the MRB materials (including quarantined cage)
  • Contain the defective components, sub-assemblies (e.g. module and PB) immediately with proper tag identification and notify the correspondent operations responsible as per QMS protocol requirement
  • Document and report inspection findings / results and when applicable monitors corrective actions to inspection findings
  • Ensure calibration and maintenance is performed on inspection equipment at shop floor as per calibration schedule
  • Review Engineering revision status with the Quality Control Supervisor whenever there is discrepancy
  • Participating in ISO9001:2015 Internal Audits, customer audit, regulatory body audit (e.g. MC and CSA)
  • Work with other company personnel to resolve inspection questions, or optimize the CMM program continuously and train staff on QA techniques
  • Initiate Non-Conformance reports and fundamental analysis as required (i.e. using structure RACA as required including 5-why, 8D, DMAIC, Cause and Effect, SPC, etc.)
  • Document information on the computer in various databases and other internal programs; logs the non-conformities and when applicable generates quality concern notification
  • Input and perform trending of key inspection process metrics, monitor inspection trends, record data, and highlight potential risks or recurring defects to management
  • Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures and comply with all quality and safety requirements
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Must be able to understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD & T) with hands on application including oscilloscope, soldering iron kit, and coating thickness gauge
  • Must be able to use various measuring instruments (height gage, caliper, micrometer, etc.)
  • Must be mechanically and/or electronically inclined
  • Familiar with PCBA manufacturing process, with in-depth knowledge on SMT, Thru Holes, and Coating processes
  • Familiar with IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standard (certification is an asset)
  • Must read and interpret specifications and part drawings
  • Knowledge of computer/software (Microsoft Office, ERP Systems, Microsoft Business Central)
  • Poses excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal in English, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability and flexibility to work on different shifts/working hours
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and persistence in resolving issues and discrepancies
Educational/Experience Requirements:
  • Community College Certificate/Diploma or related work experience
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role within an electronics (PCBA an asset), or machining environment
  • Must have working experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Must have previous experience in operating a CMM. Capability of CMM programming is PLUS
  • Must have ISO 9001 experience
