This role will serve as a trusted business partner to General Manager, leadership teams, ensuring the integrity of financial processes, systems, and reporting. The successful candidate will oversee all accounting activities for the Canadian entities, lead organizational and process improvements, and ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting. This position requires a hands-on leader with a strong technical foundation, a process improvement mindset, and the ability to navigate change in a complex environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Finance Transformation & Leadership

  • Lead the evolution and enhancement of accounting operations to support a more streamlined, standardized, and scalable finance function across Canadian business units.
  • Evaluate and improve current processes, systems, and team structures to support greater efficiency and alignment with enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders including operations, IT, HR, and corporate finance to ensure a smooth transition through periods of change.
  • Act as a champion of continuous improvement and operational excellence within the finance organization.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Manage the full accounting cycle for all Canadian legal entities, including the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes within strict deadlines.
  • Ensure financial statements are prepared in compliance with IFRS and meet internal reporting standards and timelines.
  • Oversee general ledger accuracy, intercompany accounting, reconciliations, fixed asset accounting, and other core financial operations.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support strategic business decisions.
  • Oversee daily banking operations, including cash management, bank covenant compliance, and treasury activities. Ensure accurate reporting and compliance with banking requirements.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support internal and external audit processes, including preparation, coordination, and timely resolution of findings.
  • Monitor and implement evolving regulatory changes and ensure appropriate risk management practices are in place.
  • Ensure financial operations comply with corporate governance standards, global policies, and risk management frameworks, while proactively identifying and mitigating financial and operational risks to support sustainable business performance.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, including redefining roles and responsibilities as needed to align with evolving business needs.
  • Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture focused on service excellence, continuous learning, and results.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, upskilling capabilities, and instilling a proactive, solution-oriented mindset aligned with organizational goals.
  • Partner closely with General Managers and the operations team to understand business drivers, provide financial insights, and support decision-making related to business growth initiatives, cost control, resource optimization, and profitability.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Service, and Operations teams to drive margin analysis, optimize inventory levels, and support strategic capital planning initiatives that enhance financial performance and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA) or equivalent required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience leading accounting or finance team transformation, process improvement, or organizational change initiatives.
  • Experience managing a partially remote or geographically dispersed finance team.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, with solid knowledge of IFRS and Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and change management skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., JDE, SAP, One Stream) and other financial technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
