Reporting directly to the CFO, the Financial Controller will oversee all financial management functions including reporting, budgeting, compliance, and systems optimization. This position requires a professional with strong construction accounting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all core accounting processes including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and the general ledger.
  • Ensure accurate transaction recording across development, construction, and home sales.
  • Manage job costing, unit closings, and revenue recognition.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and ensure data integrity throughout financial systems.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Collaborate closely with construction and operations teams to track budgets, costs, and project margins.
  • Prepare and review lender draw requests, cash flow forecasts, and financial dashboards.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and planning initiatives.
  • Ensure full compliance with tax and accounting regulations.
  • Oversee external audit processes and manage relationships with auditors.
  • Complete all government filings including HST/GST and corporate tax.
  • Identify and implement process enhancements to improve accuracy and turnaround times.
  • Lead and mentor accounting staff, providing coaching and career guidance.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and professional growth.

Requirements:

  • CPA designation.
  • Significant experience within residential development or construction accounting.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion methods.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities.
