JOB SUMMARY

The mandate of the Transit Customer Systems and Planning Service is to provide customer service, service planning and technology and control systems support for OC Transpo, geared to providing excellence in customer service delivery to 100 million transit customers per year by means of conventional bus, para transit and rail operations. The Technology and Control Systems branch is responsible for managing multiple and major transit IT projects that are highly complex, of multi-million dollar value, normally extend over multiple years, and may require extensive public consultation.

You serve as a technical specialist for transit security systems including, but not restricted to, the oversight of design, installation, maintenance, repair of technical hardware/software systems relating to CCTV (closed circuit TV), E-phones, DVR (digital video recording) audio recording, alarms, and fire protection systems, as well as for the processes to manage data video, maintain the equipment and manage data and equipment life-cycle planning.  You plan for the implementation of security systems and equipment, ensure a consistent approach to the implementation of security processes, and develop, maintain and update policies & procedures.

You also participate in the development/implementation/oversight of various systems, plans, policies, rules and procedures, and coordinate activities with other City partners, Federal agencies and other Canadian/International Transit authorities to obtain information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year community college diploma in Electrical/Electronic technology or related field.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant practical experience, which includes 3 years in a unionized operational environment, systems design, security installations and the management of security electronics to include experience with: 

  • programming security systems 
  • managing DVR systems 
  • programming and managing CCTV systems.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Member of ASIS International Canada (American Society for Industrial Security) is desirable KNOWLEDGE
  • General knowledge of Branch/Division mandate, programs, policies 
  • City Security policies and procedures
  • Physical security principles and employee and asset security issues
  • Current and emerging security technologies and products and best practices for their use in transit operations
  • Knowledge and understanding of Integrated electronic security management systems, including access control, applications and usage of technical security systems such as DVR (digital video recorder), alarm systems, CCTV (closed circuit television), video management software, e-phones, audio recording and fire protection systems
  • Technical knowledge of systems and related equipment to perform troubleshooting and to coordinate/resolve maintenance and repair issues
  • Knowledge and understanding of security processes such as data video management, maintenance and life-cycle strategies 
  • Possess a demonstrated knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Provincial Offences Act, MFIPPA (Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act), PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act), the Trespass to Property Act, the Canada Evidence Act and other related laws and regulations

  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

  • Able to resolve problems with hardware, software and/or large volumes of data

  • Possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
