We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented
Law Clerk
to support our growing
real estate law firm
, with a primary focus on
residential real estate closings
(purchases, sales, and refinances). This role is ideal for an experienced law clerk who can manage files independently, maintain accuracy under pressure, and provide professional client service throughout the closing process.
Key Responsibilities
Residential Real Estate File Management
- Independently manage residential real estate files from opening to closing with minimal supervision
- Handle purchases, sales, and refinance transactions end to end
Document Preparation & Registration
- Draft and review closing documents, including Transfers/Deeds, Charges/Mortgages, Discharges, and survivor applications
- Oversee document registration through the Electronic Land Registration System (ELRS)
Title & Off-Title Searches
- Conduct and review title searches using Teraview
- Perform off-title searches (tax certificates, zoning, compliance)
- Identify, address, and resolve title issues and requisitions
Lender & Financial Coordination
- Review and act on mortgage instructions from major banks and private lenders
- Ensure all lender conditions are satisfied prior to closing
- Prepare Statements of Adjustments and Trust Ledger Statements
- Calculate Land Transfer Tax and coordinate closing funds
Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, real estate agents, opposing counsel, and financial institutions
- Maintain a professional, responsive, and client-focused approach
Reporting & Deadline Management
- Prepare and deliver post-closing reporting letters to clients and lenders
- Strictly monitor critical dates, requisition periods, and closing deadlines
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience handling residential real estate closings in a law firm setting
- Law Clerk diploma, ILCO certification, or equivalent legal education
- Advanced proficiency with Teraview (mandatory)
- Experience with real estate conveyancing software such as Unity or LDD
- Familiarity with practice management software (e.g., Clio)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
- High degree of accuracy with meticulous attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
