YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.

The Out-Tripping Food Services Coordinator works closely with both the Kitchen and Out-Tripping teams to ensure all trip food is properly organized, prepared, and stocked for camper trips, while also supporting the camp kitchens as needed. The role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of kitchens and equipment and ensuring adherence to established health and safety procedures in accordance with the Ministry of Health. The Coordinator plays a key role in menu planning, meal preparation, dehydration, and packing for campers, participants, and staff, providing guidance and leadership to Trainers, Counsellors, MACKs, and Trippers under the direction of the Food Services Director. The Food Services team works diligently with campers and families to accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions, ensuring all campers receive nutritious and delicious meals throughout their stay at camp.

In this role, you will:

  • Plan and prepare meals in collaboration with the Food Services Director and Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator, ensuring trip meals are organized efficiently and delivered in an engaging manner
  • Support the camp out-tripping program by coordinating with the Food Services Director and Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator to order, organize, and prepare trip menus and meals
  • Manage food substitutions for campers with dietary restrictions and cultural needs, ensuring awareness of allergies and providing appropriate alternatives
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures, including outbreak management guidelines, are followed and maintained, and promote a clean, organized, and safe environment for campers, staff, and volunteers
  • Maintain a high level of food safety practices, role modeling and ensuring all team members comply with camp policies and procedures
  • Complete administrative tasks accurately and on time, including all kitchen paperwork, documentation for performance appraisals, and accident/incident forms when required
  • Attend all staff trainings and meetings, actively participating and contributing to the development of fellow staff members
  • Maintain a clean kitchen, including washing dishes and supporting general kitchen upkeep as required
  • Continuously build relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You bring:    

  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C and Food Handler Certificate required for the duration of the contract
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification and experience working with food allergies and dietary restrictions considered an asset
  • Minimum 1 year of experience supervising staff and 2 years of experience cooking in an institutional kitchen
  • Experience preparing food and menus for wilderness trips
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team to achieve optimal results
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, staff, and volunteers
  • Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both new and experienced staff
  • Skilled in delivering timely, professional, and constructive feedback
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required
