We are seeking an Industrial Designer to lead the creation of standard product lines across commercial, office, and hospitality sectors. This role is ideal for a designer with strong product sensibility and technical proficiency, who can balance intent with manufacturing feasibility. This candidate will be responsible for developing 3D CAD models using SolidWorks from initial concept through prototyping, working collaboratively with internal teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and present conceptual furniture designs for commercial use - specifically focused on hospitality, workplace, and multifamily housing.
  • Conduct regular research and development on new trends in the industry, as well as materials and finishes to maintain a present and forward-focused product offering.
  • After approvals, collaborate with internal fabrication detailer and production manager to ensure product designs are feasible, efficient to manufacture and aligned with production capabilities.
  • Translate conceptual models into manufacturable 3D CAD drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Complete all renders, shop drawings and product assets as necessary for By Quality's product offering page. This includes but is not limited to 3D renders, 3D CAD drawings, tear sheets, and product catalogue documents.
  • Create photorealistic renders of product for standard product, or on a project-to-project basis for programs with AI tools and software.
  • By Quality occasionally builds program-related items for Hotel brands. This includes our team's R&D, renders, and 3D CAD drawings.
  • Work on program-related tasks for By Quality, providing an in-house service for design-build with our largest hotel partners.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) for each program and By Quality catalogue item.
  • Ensure all design files and documentation are organized and stored according to company standards. Research and recommend materials, hardware, and finishes as needed.
  • Work closely with project team to resolve any production development challenges as needed.
  • Prepare vendor outputs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of product development R&D for reporting and compliance purposes.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree or diploma in Industrial Design, Furniture Making, Product Design or a related field.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software use (SolidWorks).
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in product design, preferably in furniture.
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications related to design and development such as, AI Programs, SolidWorks, Keyshot, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing methods, materials, and joinery techniques for furniture making.
  • Time management and multi-tasking skills are required.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving mindset, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
