JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director, Compliance, this position is responsible for the efficient and effective management of this regions licensing inspection program and the inspection programs for liquor, cannabis and gaming activities and venues.
Responsible for a staff of approximately 33, you will organize and lead the staff within a busy branch of a dynamic organization that often experiences changes to priorities, policies and requirements. You will establish work assignments for a diverse team including managers, supervisors, inspectors and administrative support staff. This role is accountable for all decisions related to branch operations that direct and coordinate the Inspections program within board policy and procedures.
You and your team will ensure all licensing requirements are met for various classes of liquor, cannabis, special event licenses and licence extensions prior to providing final approval when appropriate.
You will initiate, coordinate and approve investigations into alleged contraventions of the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, Regulations and Board policies. As a leader for your region, you will use your decision making and analytical skills to review alleged violations and make recommendations to the AGLC Board for Administrative Sanctions and License Conditions.
As a senior member within the Compliance Branch leadership team, you will participate in policy and procedure amendment recommendation. You are AGLC's key representative within assigned regional area and will need to confidently communicate clear interpretations of regulation and licensing to public interest groups, associations, municipal, provincial officials, police, regulatory agencies and licensees.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Minimum of a University Degree in a field relating to the position assignment, supplemented by 5 years of experience leading teams with emphasis on program development, decision making, training and conflict management.
- Some knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation, AGLC Inspections policies and procedures, and administrative law procedures is beneficial.
- Demonstrated experience leading high performance regulatory or compliance teams, with a proven ability to foster accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Possess strong strategic skills and operational planning knowledge that ensure the team's activities align with the organizational priorities and legislative requirements.
- Bring exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities, which guide inspectors through complex situations while maintaining trust with stakeholders.
- Ability to make balanced, transparent decisions in a high-profile regulatory environment.
