About Grandview Kids

Grandview Kids provides an array of specialized programs, rehabilitation services, and outpatient clinical treatments to children and youth with physical, communication, and developmental needs. Programs and services – which are delivered at the Centre, in the community, at schools, and in-home – include: medical consultation, assessment, and diagnosis; audiology, autism support; complex care program; occupational therapy; physiotherapy; respite services; social work; speech-language pathology; therapeutic recreation; and family engagement. Grandview Kids actively participates in research to support innovation in rehabilitation science, to advance organizational capabilities, and to better serve caregivers and the developmental needs of their children and adolescents. Grandview Kids is now accepting applications for the position of:

Peer Navigator – Part Time Contract (.4FTE)
  • PT – 15 hours per week (.4FTE)
  • Salary: $ $30.54 per hour, depending upon experience
  • Contract Duration: December 2025 – December 18th, 2026
  • Hybrid/On-site

Reporting directly to the Family Engagement Program Manager, the Peer Navigator is responsible for providing administrative support to plan, and manage attendance for and co-facilitate Family Engagement and Family Advisory services and events for Grandview Kids families. The position is also responsible for helping to answer questions about Grandview services and other outside resources that will increase the sense of hope and optimism for families; acts in advisory capacity on committees/panels within and outside of Grandview Kids to bring parent/caregiver perspective; maintaining communication with all other staff members; participating in education, maintaining a safe work environment; participating in the Centre's Quality Improvement Program; and carries out other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Engaging in planning, scheduling and inviting families to Family Engagement client and caregiver resource events;
  • Providing information and guides clients to community resources as needed.
  • Developing, sourcing and stocking event tools and resources;
  • Providing evaluative feedback regarding events and activities provided by the program;
  • Participating on advisory councils and committees within and outside Grandview Kids to provide feedback from the parent/caregiver/client perspective;.
  • Maintaining communication with Family Engagement Program Manager by:
  • Serving as a resource person;
  • Participating in training and workshops as needed;
  • Reading all communication from the Grandview Kids staff in a timely manner
  • Observing strict confidentiality regarding client information and sharing any concerns immediately;
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with all staff and clients/caregivers.

Qualifications

  • Preferred lived experience as a Grandview Kids graduate, a sibling or caregiver to a child/youth with communication, physical, and developmental needs, or alternatively a graduate of Grandview Kids services.
  • High school diploma; post-secondary preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of both Grandview Kids and community resources in the region.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal supports for children with communication, physical and developmental needs.
  • Effective client-focused communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in large groups.
  • Ability to efficiently communicate with diverse populations and demonstrate an understanding of cultural diversity influences on health, beliefs and behaviors.
  • Ability to face complex and difficult situations, making well-informed and timely decisions
  • Excellent computer skills and application of technologies to respond and communicate with families demonstrating comfort with social media and publishing technology (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Good time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team

You have an understanding of the services of Grandview and demonstrated lived experience as a client with communication, physical, and developmental needs. Alternatively, you are a sibling or caregiver of a child/youth with communication, physical, and developmental needs with experience supporting extensive behavioural, developmental, mental health, and medical needs, and accessing multiple providers across sectors. You have experience offering advice and support to families/peers in a mentoring capacity, a deep commitment to family-centred care and a passion for working with others to support children and youth to achieve their personal best.

You are able to work flexible hours in support of events, meetings 1:1 family sessions, workshops, and supervisory meetings that may fall outside of the typical work hour framework. You have a driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle, or reliable means of transportation.
