Fig is a new Fintech start-up revolutionizing the lending industry in Canada. Named Consumer Lender of the Year in 2024, Fig is dedicated to simplifying the borrowing process to make it more efficient and accessible for Canadians.
Supported by Fairstone Bank and Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, Fig is in a unique position to blend the benefits of extensive lending experience with the agility of a start-up. This combination allows the company to effectively meet the credit needs of Canadians from various financial backgrounds.
The Role
We're looking for a resourceful and hands-on Senior Human Resources Generalist to join the Fig team in Toronto. Reporting to the VP, Head of People Operations, this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves.
As a Senior HR Generalist, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting the employee lifecycle—from onboarding and payroll to benefits and offboarding. You'll be the go-to for all things HR, working closely with the Head of People Operations and the leadership team, while managing external vendor relationships to keep our People processes running smoothly. What you'll do
- Own the end-to-end onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a smooth experience for new hires and exiting employees.
- Administer payroll, including liaising with a third-party vendor team to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and employee inquiries.
- Prepare and manage offer letters, contracts, and other key HR documentation.
- Process People Operations–related invoices for accounts payable, ensuring accurate coding, timely submission, and alignment with budget and vendor agreements.
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with employment legislation and internal policies.
- Run HR reporting and data analysis to inform decision-making and track compliance.
- Lead performance and feedback processes using performance management tools.
- Provide frontline support to employees on People-related questions and escalate when needed.
- Continuously look for ways to improve and streamline HR operations and policies.
- Support recruitment coordination, including background checks and candidate communications.
- 3+ years of experience in a senior HR generalist role, preferably in a startup or high-growth company.
- Experience with Canadian payroll and benefits administration; familiarity with Wagepoint is a strong asset.
- Comfort using and managing HRIS systems, ideally Humi.
- Hands-on experience with performance management tools like Lattice.
- A "get-it-done" attitude—you're scrappy, adaptable, and not afraid to build as you go.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian employment standards and HR compliance practices.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills—you're approachable, responsive, and solution-oriented.
- Previous experience managing third-party vendors.
- Unique opportunity to join a company in its scaling phase and shape the future of lending in Canada.
- Competitive compensation, bonus, and benefits.
- Retirement savings program with employer matching.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus health and wellness spending accounts.
- Generous vacation and parental leave top-up.
- Continuing education stipend for professional development.
- Working Location: Hybrid with 1 day per week (Tuesdays) out of the Toronto office.
