Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role based in Toronto, ON, for a Co-Founder & CTO who will develop and implement the company's technical strategy, oversee product development, and lead the engineering team. The CTO will ensure platform security and scalability, stay current with technological trends, and represent the company in partnerships and investor relations. The role requires a visionary, hands-on technologist experienced in building secure, scalable financial tech platforms, working closely with the CEO to translate business goals into technical solutions, and engaging with external partners and regulators.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Architecture

• Co-define and execute the company's long-term technical vision and roadmap, aligned with business and regulatory objectives
• Design and oversee secure, scalable, and high-availability system architecture for financial services platforms
• Make critical decisions on technology stack, infrastructure, cloud services, APIs, and third-party integrations
• Ensure systems are built with security-by-design, scalability, and regulatory compliance at their core

Product Development & Engineering Leadership

• Lead end-to-end product development, from ideation and MVP to production and scale
• Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of ownership and excellence
• Establish engineering best practices, including CI/CD, code quality, documentation, testing, and performance monitoring
• Balance speed and quality while delivering reliable, production-grade software

Security, Compliance & Risk

• Ensure compliance with financial technology, payments, and MSB regulatory requirements
• Oversee implementation of AML, KYC, data privacy, and security frameworks
• Work closely with compliance, legal, and external auditors to support licensing, audits, and regulatory reviews
• Proactively manage technical risk, data protection, and system resilience

Business, Grwoth & Go - to -Market Support

• Collaborate with leadership on sales, partnerships, and go-to-market strategies from a technical perspective
• Support enterprise and institutional clients with technical due diligence, integrations, and solution design
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to maintain a competitive advantage

Founder Level Leadership & Representation

• Act as a co-founder and strategic leader, contributing to company-wide decisions beyond technology
• Represent the company in investor meetings, technical due diligence, partner negotiations, and industry events
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders, investors, and regulators

Qualificaitons & Expeirnce

Required

• Strong analytical, research, and technical problem-solving skills
• Proven experience leading technology teams and complex, technology-driven projects
• Deep understanding of financial technology systems, APIs, and secure transaction platforms
• Solid knowledge of MSB, payments, or financial compliance frameworks
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate in a fast-paced startup environment
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Preferred/Strong Plus

• Experience building or scaling fintech, payments, remittance, or regulated platforms
• Exposure to cloud-native architectures, microservices, and high-availability systems
• Background in sales engineering, technical partnerships, or product-led growth
• Prior startup founding or early-stage leadership experience
