Hours of work: hours per week scheduled; pick-up/on-call shifts up to 30 hours per week
Days of Work: Varying shifts; evenings and weekend availability preferred.

Reporting to: Program Manager
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Residential Rehabilitation Counsellor is responsible for promoting the rights of participants residing in residential programs with an acquired brain injury by facilitating independence and empowerment, enhancing quality of life, and implementing program activities as required, and in accordance with the Agency's mission and the philosophy of the program.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Provide support to participants which may include assisting participants complete their routines in accordance with their Individual Support Plan, attendant care duties such as toileting, changing briefs, addressing participant concerns, feeding participants etc.
- Assist with ongoing program development, assessment and evaluation of the participant's ISP by identifying and communicating changes i.e. behaviour, routine, or progress, to the RB Designate.
- Provide supportive counselling by promoting participation in social functions, arranging transportation, identifying inappropriate behaviour and redirecting participants to alternative action.
- Complete administration and documentation for medications as per Agency policies and practices.
- Responsible and accountable for meeting shift expectations and tasks as assigned within a program, job site or specific to any given participant; completing expectations as Shift Coordinator when assigned.
- Communicate effectively between participants and staff via, counsellor notes, email, work binders, observation sheets, accordance with the Agency's documentation policies and procedures.
- In emergency situations or fire drills, required to assist in the evacuation of participants and carry out duties as per the Emergency Response Plan.
- Maintain a safe environment by complying with all aspects of the Agency's Health and Safety Program in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Responsible for maintaining a high level of job knowledge, skill, work habits, and professionalism by attending team meetings, mandatory training refreshers, participating in education seminars, conferences, and workshops.
Qualification Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in relevant field such as social services, psychology, sociology, social work or a related field preferred.
- Preference of one (1) year of work experience in social services and experience with implementing individual support plans.
- Current certification in Standard First Aid/CPR.
- Willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- Safe Management training an asset.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- Computer literate and effective working skills with Agency software.
- High degree of resourcefulness, problem solving abilities, accountability and dependability.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the position and develop an excellent rapport with participants and co-workers.
- Must be able to work the occasional overnight shift.
