**JOB SUMMARY**:

**EDUCATION**:

- Grade 12 or equivalent
- College diploma from an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant (OTA/PTA) - Required
- Consideration will be given to a completed University degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on therapeutic techniques and equipment

**KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE**:

- Minimum 6 months of current experience implementing therapeutic interventions preferably in a long term care geriatric setting.
- Knowledge and experience with dementia care, responsive behaviours and working with seating and mobility devices preferred.

**SKILLS**:

- Must have an excellent rapport interacting with others and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals living in long term care with varied needs and abilities.

**SPECIAL CONDITIONS**:

- In accordance with the Corporate Policy and applicable Legislation/Regulation(s), the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Record Check and submit a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as complete any subsequent declaration or check as required by legislation/Act, regulation, and/or policy.
- Compliance with any requirements, including immunization and screening measures, of the infection prevention and control program as required by applicable legislation/Act, regulation or policy; some measures are only recommendations (not requirements).
- Staff are required to be screened for Tuberculosis in accordance with the applicable legislation/Act.
- Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the position.
- Must have a good attendance record.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Responsible for ensuring proper completion and appropriateness of referrals, attending assessments with registered therapists, implementing prescribed treatments, demonstrating use of equipment and/or therapeutic techniques to residents/staff, and documenting outcomes accordingly.
- Responsible for providing therapy as described in the plan of care. The plan of care may include but is not limited to utilization of various modalities, passive/active assisted range of motion, hot/cold packs, exercises, individualized or group therapy programs, sensory stimulation, wellness, or functional ADL activities.
- Ensures documentation is maintained in the Progress Notes related to therapy referrals, prescribed treatment, outcome, and discharge. Maintains Home specific documentation, such as POC attendance, and inventory of equipment.
- Works under the direction of registered therapists in carrying out prescribed treatment plans for the purposes of rehabilitation. Receives instruction from therapists regarding new equipment or interventions.
- Advises the therapist of any observed change in the residents’ condition, which is not consistent with the normal course of recovery. Consults with and recommends to the therapist any necessary changes to the therapy program
