The Route Planner/Dispatcher plays an important role in the coordination and efficient movement of goods from the distribution centers in Calgary, ensuring timely deliveries to various destinations. This role involves dispatching transportation resources of Delivery Drivers, monitoring schedules, communicating with drivers, and troubleshooting logistical challenges to meet customer demands and operational goals of Willow Park Wines & Spirits. Success as a route planner/dispatcher will be achieved when you are a strong planner who is organized and has a strong attention to detail. You will be able to communicate clearly and professionally with your team of office workers and drivers. You will also be able to adjust your plans frequently during the day depending on the requirements of our customers. You will have the ability to build positive inter-company relationships and rapport. You will have experience in customer service and be willing to support the customer service team when needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule the dispatch of transportation resources, including driversand vehicles, to fulfill customer orders and delivery requirements.
  • Assign Delivery Drivers routes based on delivery priorities, time windows, and routeoptimization strategies
  • Assist in the planning and optimization of delivery routes to maximize efficiency,reduce travel time, and minimize fuel consumption.
  • Consider factors such as traffic conditions, delivery windows, and freight load weights to ensure safety of drivers and freights are maintained
  • Maintain positive and professional interaction with customers, ensuring that deliverycommitments or expectations are met.
  • Address client inquiries, concerns, or special requests related to deliveries.
  • Assist in monitoring driver compliance and ensure safety protocols are met.
  • Ensure that all transportation operations comply with the safety regulations and company policies.
  • Utilize the Transportation Management Systems (Work Wave) and communication tools (Slack) to track vehicle locations, monitor routes, and communicate with drivers in real-time
  • Address logistical challenges that may arise during transportation, such as route changes, delivery delays, or customer requests that may change priorities.
  • Prepare and organize the necessary documentation for each shipment with an excellent attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in dispatching is required (food industry experience preferred).
  • Some post-secondary education in Logistics or Business Administration would be valuable.
  • Previous experience in customer service is a valuable asset.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in using Slack, Work Wave, Fleetio.
  • Analytical thinking, planning, organizing, inductive and deductive reasoning.
  • Strong written, verbal, communication skills are an asset.
