About the Opportunity

Applied Industrial Technologies is looking for
a full-time Hydraulic Technician/Mechanic - Millwrights, Heavy Duty Mechanics, and Machinists
based in
Surrey, BC
, with a balanced mix of shop work and field service.
Field service may occasionally require overnight travel within BC and some planned weekend work, with overtime provided.

Reporting to the Shop Foreman, you will play a key role in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding hydraulic components and systems while supporting the rebuild and growth of the AIT Surrey Shop.

In this position, you will be responsible for performing high-quality hydraulic repairs and diagnostics in both the shop and the field (approximately 50/50 on average), contributing to operational excellence and customer satisfaction across diverse industries.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Inspecting, diagnosing, and performing repairs on pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders
  • Conducting failure analysis and preparing detailed condition and test reports
  • Performing system troubleshooting in shop and field environments
  • Representing Applied professionally in the field as a subject matter expert, communicating clearly and confidently with customers to explain findings and solutions
  • Assisting with quoting, job assessments, and work scopes
  • Rebuilding and reconditioning hydraulic components to precise specifications
  • Maintaining adherence to quality systems, safety standards, and customer requirements
  • Providing on-site field service locally and across BC, with access to a company vehicle for travel
  • Supporting continuous improvement efforts through ongoing training and technical skill development

About You

To qualify, you will need
2+ years of hands-on experience in hydraulic systems, mechanical repairs, or industrial maintenance
, ideally supported by training as
a Millwright, Heavy Duty Mechanic, or Machinist
.
A valid driver's license is required
for this role.

Certification as
a Red Seal Journeyperson Millwright, Heavy Duty Mechanic, or Machinist
is considered a strong asset, but candidates with significant hands-on expertise will also be considered. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, training, and certification level.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Demonstrated ability to inspect, diagnose, and rebuild hydraulic components such as pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders
  • Proven troubleshooting skills in open and closed loop hydraulic systems, both in the shop and field environments
  • Proven ability to represent your employer professionally in customer-facing environments, communicating technical information clearly, confidently, and respectfully
  • Strong attention to precision, cleanliness, and mechanical assembly standards
  • Ability to complete detailed inspection reports and maintain technical documentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply basic math in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook
  • Commitment to safety standards and contributing to a positive, collaborative team environment
  • Willingness to continuously learn, adapt, and develop technical skills through programs such as
    Applied Academy
  • Understanding of integrated mechanical systems and basic electrical troubleshooting (asset)
