About the Role
Our Halifax-based construction partner is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Project Manager to lead and coordinate all civil components across multiple active construction sites. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication, and the ability to manage complex sitework activities while ensuring quality, safety, schedule, and budget performance.
The Senior Civil Project Manager will serve as the key liaison between engineering teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and on-site personnel, ensuring all civil works are completed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with design and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Drawing Review & Technical Coordination
Review Civil, Septic, Water Distribution, and Landscaping drawings for accuracy, constructability, and cross-discipline coordination.
Identify efficiencies, value-engineering opportunities, and cost/time savings.
Manage design coordination with Civil Engineers, including RFIs, inspections, CAD requests, and field clarifications.
Budget, Schedule & Project Controls
Manage and track budgets for all civil components of the project.
Ensure sitework schedules are met and proactively address delays or coordination challenges.
Confirm consistent manpower allocation across all civil work fronts.
Sitework & Excavation Coordination
Lead coordination of mass excavation activities, including confirming grades, cut/fill requirements, and work sequencing.
Oversee foundation excavation and ensure all subgrade work is completed ahead of finish grading.
Coordinate stormwater piping, electrical duct banks, and all underground utilities to avoid schedule conflicts.
Water, Septic & Site Utilities
Manage septic system excavation and installation, including scheduling tank deliveries and coordinating inspections with Waterloo, ABLE, or NSECC.
Oversee water distribution system excavation and installation, including piping and electrical conduit.
Coordinate NSP power connections required for water and septic systems.
Lead commissioning activities for all septic and water systems.
Coordinate well drilling activities and associated site readiness.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure ESC (Erosion and Sediment Control) plans are followed throughout construction.
Confirm all civil work aligns with design drawings, specifications, and contract scope.
Coordinate Geotechnical inspections as required.
Oversee blasting activities, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
Landscaping & Flatworks
Coordinate landscaping activities in alignment with site schedules and design requirements.
Coordinate flatwork operations with sitework and deliveries to maintain clear, safe, and accessible work areas.
Surveying & Layout
Coordinate surveying requirements for building and site layouts not covered under subcontract scopes.
Qualifications
(You can adjust based on hiring requirements)
8–10+ years of progressive experience in civil construction project management.
Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
Strong knowledge of excavation, utilities, septic/water systems, grading, and sitework sequencing.
Proficiency with civil drawings, CAD files, and engineering coordination processes.
Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, and multiple subcontractors.
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working in Nova Scotia or Atlantic Canada considered an asset.
