Seeking Kind and Skilled Live-In Caregivers – Etobicoke

Rate: $350 per 24-hour day (live-in shift)

Location: Etobicoke (private home)

We are seeking compassionate, dedicated, and experienced live-in caregivers to provide high-quality support for a male stroke patient in his home. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about helping others, especially those with experience supporting seniors, individuals with disabilities, or patients recovering from serious illness.

The patient has left-side paralysis following a severe stroke and requires consistent supervision, mobility assistance, and structured daily care. His wife struggles with mobility, but remains active and engaged in her husbands care. This is meaningful work in a warm, respectful, and supportive family environment where caregivers are deeply valued.

This position includes live-in shifts, a furnished shared bedroom (alternating between two caregivers), full kitchen access, basic groceries and accommodation provided at no cost.

We are hiring two caregivers:

• Caregiver A: Monday–Friday (5-day live-in shift)
• Caregiver B: Saturday–Sunday (2-day live-in shift)

A valid work permit is required; LMIA sponsorship may be considered for the right candidate.

Daily & Weekly Responsibilities

• Continuous monitoring of the patient's safety, comfort, and wellbeing.
• Following a structured daily schedule for medications, feeding, repositioning, and hygiene care.
• Providing personal care including bathing, grooming, dressing, and assisted feeding when needed.
• Waking twice overnight for scheduled 30-minute care/change sessions.
• Administering medications as directed and following the care plan accurately.
• Safely operating a Hoyer lift for daily transfers.
• Working collaboratively with PSWs who visit 3 times daily for hygiene and transfer support.
• Performing light housekeeping, daily tidying, and laundry to maintain a safe environment.
• Sleeping close to the patient for nighttime safety needs.
• Taking the patient on outdoor walks (weather permitting).
• Attending weekly physiotherapy appointments; learning and implementing prescribed exercises.
• Completing mobility and strengthening exercises as advised by physiotherapists.
• Providing companionship, emotional support, and creative engagement activities to promote mental and emotional wellbeing.
• Monitoring and reporting any changes in condition or behavior to family or healthcare professionals.
• Assisting the patient's wife with health-related tasks and basic household duties.
• Managing weekly garbage, recycling, and compost.
• Being available on-call for patient needs during your shift.
• Following a consistent daily routine and maintaining clear communication.
• Speaking and reading English clearly.
• Being reliable, patient, skilled, and friendly.

Daily breaks, meal times, and a full uninterrupted rest period are included each day according to the established schedule.

Support & Training

• Hands-on training provided for all care routines, equipment use (including the Hoyer lift), and safety procedures.
• Ongoing support from PSWs, physiotherapists, and family members to help maintain consistent, coordinated care.

Requirements

• Proven caregiving experience—stroke care, mobility-limited care support preferred.
• Ability to perform safe lifting, transfers, and mobility assistance.
• Strong communication, organization, and schedule-keeping skills.
• Compassionate, patient, and emotionally supportive demeanor.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable with a live-in care environment.
• Valid work permit (sponsorship may be considered).
• Ability to pass a background check if required.
