Position Summary

Reporting to the Foreman, Utilities, the Labourer II is responsible for using safe work practices and procedures to perform a wide variety of manual tasks within the Utility Operations business unit. The position uses safe work practices and procedures to carry out assigned tasks and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the work team.

Responsibilities

include but are not limited to:

  • Maintenance of water distribution including hydrant flushing, hydrant painting, valve exercising, CC exercising, and general repairs.
  • Conducting meter reading and replacements.
  • Performing maintenance of the utilities equipment and tools.
  • Maintenance of sewer collection including flushing slow sewer, man hole repair, and lift station maintenance.

Qualifications

The successful candidates will have a Grade 12 Diploma and a Class 5 Driver's License. Enrollment in or completion of a related Water and Wastewater educational program along with a First Aid certification and Flagman training is required. Previous water and sewer maintenance experience is an asset. Good organizational and customer service skills, with the ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing are essential. This is a physically demanding position; incumbents will be required to work in a variety of adverse conditions. This position requires your commitment for the duration of the season.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. A current Driver's Abstract will be required at the time of interview.

Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly

Duration: April 27, 2026, to August 28, 2026
