We are looking for an Intermediate Underwriter for a 6 months contract with high possibility for extension. Role is hybrid with 1 day a week on site either in Downtown Toronto or Montreal.

ole Overview

The Underwriting Analyst supports the assessment and approval of residential mortgage and real estate lending applications. This role evaluates credit and property information, applies lending policies, and makes approval or decline decisions within authorized limits. The analyst exercises sound judgment on higher-risk files, reviews third-party reports, and provides guidance on policy, procedures, and property valuations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, approve, decline, or recommend residential mortgage and real estate applications within assigned lending authority (up to $1.5MM).
  • Analyze borrower, property, and credit documentation in line with risk and insurer requirements.
  • Communicate with internal teams and external partners such as insurers, appraisers, and solicitors.
  • Escalate and recommend higher-value or higher-risk files to senior underwriting.
  • Manage high application volumes while maintaining accuracy and quality.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–4 years of residential mortgage underwriting experience
  • Bilingual (French/English)
  • Experience with real estate secured lending and credit decision authority
  • Strong document review, exception handling, and risk assessment skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Underwriting or broker training
  • Excel and Outlook proficiency
  • University degree
  • Knowledge of Canadian lending regulations
