Summary of responsibilities

The Clinical Informatics (CI) Nurse is responsible for providing education, training, and hands on support related to the electronic health record (EHR). They will liaise between the CI department and front-line users to provide support. They will assess the nature of calls, troubleshoot as necessary, and escalate further as applicable. Support will be provided to staff and physicians in-person, telephone, virtual, and via E-mail; the focus will be on the use of Cerner and supported applications.

The CI Nurse will work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that system initiatives reflect best practice, and hospital policies and procedures. This role will lead or participate with multidisciplinary teams in the development of new or improved workflows, and assist with planning the system changes including testing and training.

The CI Nurse may be asked to lead or participate in Continuous Improvement projects related to the EHR to ensure that processes and workflows are accurately reflected in the Millennium software. This position works in conjunction with the CI Team and the IT department to identify future needs and enhancements for the system. The CI Nurse will interact closely with front-line staff and must be customer service orientated. All projects will be aligned with hospital priorities and support the mission, vision and values of Cornwall Community Hospital.

Requirements of the job

• Registered Nurse
• Solid understanding of processes within healthcare.
• Strong communication skills, including formal presentations.
• Adult learning/teaching experience.
• Proven analytical skills.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
• Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety.
• Functional proficiency in English (oral and written).

Assets:

• Thorough knowledge of a Cerner EHR is preferred.
• Experience bridging users and providers of software is preferred.
