JOB SUMMARY
The Shipping/Receiving Supervisor is responsible for managing all activities related to the receipt, inspection, and storage of incoming materials, as well as ensuring the accurate and timely shipment of customer orders. This role oversees a small team of material handlers to support daily shipping and receiving operations.
Responsibilities include supervising the safe and efficient use of material handling equipment, performing daily inspections, and coordinating necessary repairs and maintenance. The position also ensures optimal warehouse organization and workflow to meet the demands of a fast-paced, seasonal business environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Shipping/Receiving:
- Oversee and coordinate the accurate and timely shipment of customer orders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with the sales team;
- Manage the preparation of all outgoing customer orders, including mixed-stacked pallets, staging activities, and required shipping documentation (including customs documentation as applicable);
- Confirm that all materials are prepared and ready prior to scheduled shipment dates;
- Ensure customer loads are executed safely, meet customer expectations, and include all required documentation and instructions;
- Oversee verification of shipment accuracy, including confirmation of all customer order details;
- Conduct visual inspections of finished goods as part of the quality control process during shipment preparation;
- Direct and monitor the receiving, handling, and proper storage of all inbound goods;
- Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as needed to move, store, and transport raw materials, work-in-progress items, and finished goods inventory;
- Verify that all physical packing slips are collected and forwarded to the purchasing team for electronic processing within the ERP system.
Team Supervision:
- Provide training, guidance, and oversight to Material Handlers, ensuring adherence to safe work practices and operational standards;
- Ensure the team conducts thorough inspections of incoming and outgoing shipments, verifying quality, specifications, and quantities against packing slips; maintain detailed logs of issues and corrective actions.
Inventory:
- Support the inventory team in conducting routine cycle counts and annual year-end inventory counts;
- Report any stocking, inventory, or shipping concerns or discrepancies to the Operations Manager promptly;
- Ensure proper disposal of scrap and waste materials in approved containers and in accordance with company guidelines.
Health and Safety:
- Oversee daily inspections of material handling equipment and coordinate necessary repairs and preventive maintenance to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
- Work and ensure team is working in compliance with company policies and procedures and Occupational Health & Safety Act for Industrial Establishments.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of secondary school or GED equivalent;
- Minimum 5 years' experience in material handling and truck loading in an industrial environment, or equivalent;
- Solid understanding of inventory management, packing, and shipping best practices;
- Familiarity with ERP Systems;
- Valid forklift certification.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong organization and time management skills to fulfill job requirements and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills;
- Effective collaboration skills to work with other departments to achieve business objectives;
- Strong verbal communication skills;
- Supervisory skills to provide day-to-day direction to team members;
- Flexible team-oriented attitude to assist in other areas as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work performed indoors and outdoors in an industrialshop environment with exposure to high level of noise, extreme temperatures;
- Worked performed around moving machines, vehicles;
- Moderate-high noise level;
- Must be able to stand up to 8+ hours per day;
- Must be able to lift to 50 lbs frequently;
- Must be able to push lbs frequently.
