Indigenous Housing Support Program Coordinator

The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre (NFC) is a not-for-profit, culture and community-based organization mandated to serve the needs of urban Indigenous people in the City of Peterborough and surrounding area. The NFC is currently accepting applications for a full-time position as our Indigenous Supportive Housing Program (ISHP) Coordinator

Objectives:
To support urban Indigenous individuals experiencing homelessness or precarious housing situations in obtaining and retaining stable housing, enabling individuals to live as independently as possible in their community.
Responsibilities:
The ISHP Coordinator will ensure all aspects of the ISHP program are designed, planned, coordinated, delivered, maintained, and evaluated. Based on individual cases, the coordinator will collaborate with, and make referrals to, relevant NFC programs and external agencies to ensure wraparound support is available. In addition, will practice and role model cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed wholistic approach.
The ISHP Coordinator will:
- Develop a strengths-based, trauma-informed action plan with service users and update progress as needed;
- Provide housing loss prevention supports and empower service users to find solutions to housing situations;
- Provide education, training and resources on capacity building life skills, essential skills development, etc.;
- Based on intake needs, connect service users to stable housing solutions including rent supplements (RS) and housing allowances (HA), assist with applications and oversee program payments;
- Oversee and coordinate the Braidwood Transitional Home (up to 3 tenants) program, proposing and reviewing applications for the Home;
- Recognize risks and signs of human trafficking and domestic violence and intervene using trauma-informed, culturally safe practices;
- Provide awareness and ensure program access through a variety of outreach efforts
- Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with local housing support agencies;
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, social work, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrated and related work experience in health or social services.
- Other combinations of education and experience will be considered
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history.
- Knowledge of local and regional health, wellness and long-term care support service agencies, and Non-Insured Health Benefits.
- High proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Outstanding communication, analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize work and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, with minimal supervision
- Valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel when required;
- First Aid / CPR certification or be willing to be certified;
- A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer.
Salary: $45, $56, with a 3-month probation)
Benefits: Health care spending account, 2 weeks paid vacation, 10 days of paid sick time, 5 paid wellness days, holiday closures.
Schedule: 8:30 - 4:30 Monday to Friday with evenings and weekends as needed
