What We're Looking For:
Roam is seeking an organized and proactive HR Generalist who will play a key role in centralizing and delivering human resources support across Roam Transit, ensuring consistency and efficiency in office operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, this role manages day-to-day tasks such as document organization, supply and asset coordination, and general office administration.
This role is instrumental in maintaining an organized, well-functioning workplace, enabling Roam team members to focus on delivering safe, reliable, and customer-focused transit services.
Responsibilities:
Assist employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and day-to-day operational matters, including supporting employee relations, and escalating complex or sensitive issues to the HR Manager as appropriate.
Assist with administration of employee benefits and wellness programs, providing guidance to employees, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
Facilitate full-cycle recruitment in collaboration with the HR Manager, including job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, reference checks, and offer letters, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and inclusive hiring principles.
Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes, including system setup, orientation sessions, employee check-ins, and exit interviews, ensuring consistency with organizational policies and best practices.
Maintain accurate employee records and data within the HRIS, ensuring confidentiality, compliance with privacy policies, and supporting reporting and HR metrics.
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of HRIS functionality by identifying enhancement opportunities, supporting implementation, and ensuring systems remain efficient, accurate, and supportive of a positive employee experience.
Manage staff housing operations, including unit assignments, move-in/move-out inspections, maintenance coordination, and accurate record-keeping in compliance with internal policies and relevant housing-related legislation.
Enroll new employees in the payroll system Ceridian Powerpay and assist the Accounting Generalist with basic payroll-related inquiries (e.g. TD forms, T4s, password resets).
Assist with WCB claims processes as needed, ensuring day-to-day coordination and employee communication.
Support employee engagement initiatives, including surveys, wellness programs, team-building events, and internal communications, fostering a positive workplace culture and employee experience.
Contribute to the ongoing development, implementation, and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, and programs, supporting alignment with organizational values, HR best practices, and legislation.
Collaborate with the HR Manager and other stakeholders on HR projects and initiatives, maintaining alignment with organizational goals and timelines.
Ensure compliance with Alberta Employment Standards, Human Rights legislation, and other relevant employment laws in day-to-day operations.
Other HR duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education Requirement:
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered).
CPHR designation or candidacy is considered an asset.
Experience:
3+ years of relevant HR experience, exposed to a variety of HR-related disciplines.
Experience using HRIS platforms, including data entry, digital records management, and generating HR reports.
Experience coordinating and contributing to HR projects or initiatives in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.
Experience supporting employee relations, including conflict resolution, disciplinary action, and policy interpretation.
Experience of benefits administration is considered an asset.
Experience managing staff accommodations and housing-related functions is considered an asset.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, Human Rights legislation, and HR best practices across full-cycle recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, payroll support, and compliance.
Strong interpersonal, communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization, provide clear and supportive HR guidance, and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
Ability to support employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes, escalating complex or sensitive cases to the HR Manager as appropriate.
Proficiency with HRIS platforms, digital filing systems, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), including analyzing HR metrics and generating reports.
Knowledge of payroll deductions, staff entitlements, and related administrative processes.
Ability to manage staff housing operations, including unit assignments, move-in/move-out inspections, maintenance coordination, and accurate record-keeping in compliance with internal policies and relevant housing-related legislation.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy when managing employee records, benefits data, and confidential information.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple HR processes and deadlines, take initiative, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
High level of professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
Committed to fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture and supporting initiatives that enhance employee engagement and experience.
Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively across teams to contribute to HR projects, program improvements, and initiatives in alignment with organizational policies and goals.
Other Requirements/Conditions:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (proof will be required).
Must pass police security clearance (proof will be required).

What we offer:
A competitive annual salary between $70,000 - $75,000.
Paid vacation, starting at 3 weeks per year.
