JSI is seeking an experienced technical writer to help create and maintain technical documentation in the area of core platform Engineering. This role will collaborate with variety of users and audiences both internal to Product Development as well as outside facing: Operations, Technical support, and Customer System Administrators.

Responsibilities :

  • Create, organize, and maintain engineering documentation such as system manuals, how-to guides, release manuals, knowledge base articles, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Create, validate, and maintain comprehensive technical and operational documentation including but not limited to operational procedures, deployment guides, and upgrade documentation.
  • Gather information from subject-matter experts, compile, develop, organize, and write technical specifications, design decision records and process documentation.
  • Act as the engineering documentation coordinator/ work with development and support leads. 
  • Work closely with documentation team to conform/adhere to the necessary corporate documentation standards and norms.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain necessary documentation templates.
  • Evaluate current content and develop/implement innovative methods for improvement (style guides, content templates, best practices).
  • Act as the user advocate and provide consistent voice across all documentation.

Required Qualifications :

  • 4-7 years of experience as an effective technical writer.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter.
  • Experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences. 
  • Experience performing software deploys and troubleshooting skills will be a big plus
  • Superb written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Experience working with engineers to disseminate, write and validate procedural content.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Curious and have a learning mindset.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in technology, communications, or relevant technical field. 
  • Firm understanding of SDLC (systems development lifecycle) 
  • Experience in software development or QA. 
  • Professional certification (ex: Society for Technical Communication) 
  • Experience with document encoding (XML, markdown, json, yaml) 
  • Experience with content management tools (Share point, Confluence, mkdocs) 
  • Experience with configuration management tools (JIRA, TFS) 
  • Experience with source control tools (Git) is a plus. 
  • Experience working in an agile development environment. 
  • Project management experience is an asset. 
  • DevOps, Virtualization, Linux, Kubernetes, Containers big plus 


How We Work
You will be expected to work in a remote/hybrid environment reporting to our Kanata, Ontario location 2 or more times per week.
